摘要： A cryogenic freezer apparatus (10) for food products includes a conveyor (18) within a thermally insulated enclosure (12). A cryogen injecting unit (34) is located in said enclosure (12) adjacent the opening thereof, and responsive to a cryogen control signal for introducing liquid cryogen in said enclosure (12). A blower unit (30) in said enclosure (12) directs cryogen vapor away from said enclosure opening (14) toward the interior of said enclosure (12). The output of said blower unit (30) being controllable by a blower control signal. A sensing unit (52) within said enclosure (12) senses the cooling capacity of the cryogen vapor at the enclosure opening and generates a sensor output signal which is indicative of the amount of cryogen vapor escaping out of said opening (14).

The lower end of the center cage (35) can be blocked, and a centrifugal blower (53) is axially located at the upper end of the cage to suck gas from the interior of the cage and discharge it horizontally outward along the undersurface of the top wall so that it flows outwards, then downward and, finally, radially inward in an overall generally toroidal pattern through the tiers of the helical belt section (33) where it withdraws heat from and freezes the food products being carried therealong.

摘要： A freezer (10) includes an insulated enclosure (12) for maintaining low temperatures therewith and a conveyor belt (20) that carries food products throughout the enclosure (12). The conveyor belt (20) includes a straight-line path section (40) and at least one helical path section (22a) and is driven by vertical drive elements (32) carried by a rotating drum (28) about which the conveyor helical path section (22a) is located. Upon entering a helical path section (22a) from a straight-line path section (40), the conveyor belt (20) undergoes expansion only, with the inner ends of its transverse rods (52) maintaining a precise spacing which allows smooth interengagement between heads at the inboard ends of the rods (52) and the leading surfaces of the vertical drive elements (32) that are located along the circumference of the rotating drum (28) which defines the curved helical path (22a). Because of the improved arrangement, both an ascending helical path and a descending helical path can be established within a single freezer with both rotating drums (28) simply driven by a single motor (30).

摘要： A food freezer (10) having a mechanical refrigeration system (54) comprising first (56) and second (58) closed-loop fluid circuits, wherein the first fluid circuit (56) employs carbon dioxide as its refrigerant and transfers heat to the second fluid circuit (58), which in turn transfers heat to the environment or to another fluid circuit. In the first fluid circuit evaporator (60), carbon dioxide is maintained at pressures between 60.4 psig and 120 psig. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the freezer (10) employs at least two separate blowers (44), (86) or fans for circulation of air or other gas in the freezer enclosure. One blower/fan (44) operates continuously to maintain circulation of cold air or gas in the freezer (10). The other blower/fan (86) operates intermittently or at variable speeds to vary air flow across the evaporator (60), and thereby increase or decrease heat transfer from the freezer (10) interior to the first fluid circuit evaporator (60) to maintain the freezer (10) interior at a desired temperature or within a desired temperature range.
