摘要： A portable computer includes a display portion comprising a display and a base portion pivotally coupled to the display portion. The base portion may include a bottom case and a top case, formed from a dielectric material, coupled to the bottom case. The top case may include a top member defining a top surface of the base portion and a sidewall integrally formed with the top member and defining a side surface of the base portion. The portable computer may also include a sensing system including a first sensing system configured to determine a location of a touch input applied to the top surface of the base portion and a second sensing system configured to determine a force of the touch input.

摘要： An orbiting relay assembly may be provided that has one or more switches. The switches may be provided with electrical contacts. An actuator such as an electromagnetic actuator may rotate guiding structures such as a rotating yoke about a rotational axis. The guiding structures may have portions that receive movable electrical coupling structures such as metal balls or cylinders. There may be multiple movable electrical coupling structures in a relay. The electrical coupling structures may be distributed radially outwards from the rotational axis, may be distributed circumferentially about the rotational axis, or may be distributed axially parallel to the rotational axis. The guiding structures may be configured to place the switches in one or more different operating states by moving the metal balls or other movable electrical coupling structures about the rotational axis.

摘要： A low Z profile consolidated thermal module suitable for securing and removing excess heat generated by an integrated circuit (208) mounted to a printed circuit board (214) and operating in a compact computing environment is disclosed. The consolidated thermal module comprises a heat removal assembly (202, 204, 206) with a reduced footprint and disposed on a first surface of the printed circuit board and in thermal contact with the integrated circuit. A retaining mechanism (210) is disposed on a second surface of the printed circuit board and a backer plate (218) is disposed between the retaining mechanism and the printed circuit board. At least one fastener (212) secures the heat removal assembly to the backer plate and the retaining mechanism, wherein the retaining mechanism causes a substantially uniform retaining force to be applied across the backer plate, thereby minimizing an amount of torque applied to the integrated circuit.

摘要： A portable computing device includes at least a base portion of a lightweight material that includes at least a wedge shaped top case having a trough formed at an interfacing edge thereof. The trough includes a raised shoulder portion having a first contact surface and a receiving area, and a bottom case coupled to the top case to form a complete housing for at least a portion of the portable computing device for enclosing at least a plurality of operational components and a plurality of structural components. The portable computing device also includes at least a lid portion pivotally connected to the base portion by a hinge assembly. In the described embodiments, the lid portion has a display in communication with one or more of the plurality of components in said base portion by way of or more electrical conductors that electrically connect the base portion to the lid portion.

The hinge assembly also includes a plurality of fastening components that couple the hollow clutch to the base portion and the lid portion of the portable computer, with at least one of the fastening regions being integrally formed with the hollow and partially open cylindrical portion such that space, size and part count are minimized.
