摘要： An apparatus for managing and monitoring a sensing device encapsulated in a compartment formed within a medium is disclosed. The medium compartment includes a release mechanism (210) suitable for exposing the sensing device (310). The apparatus comprises an active component (510) connected to the encapsulated sensing device, the active component providing a measurement from the sensing device to a sensing measurement device. In one aspect of the invention a second active device (420) connected to an electrode associated with the release mechanism, the second active component (420) selectively providing an electrical signal to the electrode for activating the release mechanism (210) and exposing the encapsulated sensing device (310). In another aspect of the invention, a plurality of the apparatus disclosed may be incorporated into an array that is electrically connected to a select circuit for providing a voltage to selected ones of the first and second active devices for switching the active devices to a conductive state. A release circuit selectively provides a voltage to selected ones of the second active device (420), wherein the voltage is suitable for operating an associated compartment release mechanism and exposing the associated sensing device.

摘要： An image is updated on a bi-stable display (310) such as an electrophoretic display in a transition from a current image state to a subsequent image state. A voltage waveform (600, 620, 640, 660; 700, 720, 740, 760) is selected based on the current and subsequent image states, and a previous image state. The bi-stable display (310) is driven from the current image state to the subsequent image state using the selected voltage waveform. For a given transition from the current to the next image state, different waveforms are stored for different previous states, e.g., black, dark grey, light grey and white. The different waveforms may have different drive pulse (DR) or reset pulse (RE1, RE2) energies. In a trial and error optimization process, different waveforms with different reset and/or drive pulse energies are tested for different previous image states to see which waveform yields the smallest greyscale error.

摘要： A drive method is provided for a display device using the movement of charged particles with a pixel area, with each pixel having first and second drive electrodes (20,23; 22) and a pixel electrode (26). The method comprises a reset phase to move the particles in each pixel towards the first drive electrode (20,23), a pixel data loading phase, to cause selected particles either to stay in the vicinity of the first drive electrode (20,23) or move towards the pixel electrode (26), and a drive phase to distribute the particles which have moved towards the pixel electrode over the pixel electrode (26). The address phase is line-by-line but can be made short, and the other phases can be carried out in parallel for all pixels, saving time.

Coded data (605, 610, 615) for driving the display is stored in memory (320) for different pixel transitions and different temperatures. The coded data includes voltage level and timing information for the different pixel transitions. A portion (705, 710, 715, 720, 725, 730) of the coded data is retrieved by a controller (100) such as an ASIC based on a selected pixel transition, temperature, and update mode. The portion of the coded data, which may include fixed length frame instructions, is decoded to provide decoded data. The decoded data is used to provide voltage waveforms for driving the display.

摘要： An electrical device with an impedance detector comprises a path from a supply voltage to a second voltage. The path comprises segments having electrical impedances, at least one of which is to be ascertained, and a measuring vertex. The impedance detector further comprises a discriminator connected to the measuring vertex, arranged to evaluate a measuring voltage observed at said measuring vertex, and situated in a path between a further supply voltage and a third voltage. The discriminator draws no significant current from said supply voltage if the to be ascertained impedance remains above a threshold value. In this manner, in a standby mode, a zero-power supervision of a condition when to resume operation can be achieved.
