摘要： The invention relates to a device for imaging the interior of a volume of an object using diffuse optical tomography and ultrasound. According to the invention a volume in which the object is accommodated and into which optical and ultrasound signals are sent is bound by a wall structure comprising entrance and exit positions for both the optical and ultrasound signals. In this way, the object can be positioned relative to the wall structure resulting in a well-defined measurement geometry. The invention improves the comparability of scans of an object that have been made at different points in time as the positioning of the object in a first scan can be precisely reproduced in a further scan relative to the wall structure.

摘要： The invention relates to a matching medium that is used to optically couple an optically turbid medium to its surroundings during diffuse optical tomography measurements. Generally, an optical matching medium makes it hard to acoustically couple the turbid medium to its surroundings efficiently. According to the invention, this problem is solved by using a matching medium that matches both the optical and acoustic characteristics of the turbid medium to the optical and acoustic characteristics of the surroundings of the turbid medium. The invention explains how a multimodality matching medium can be obtained that both optically and acoustically couples human tissue to its surroundings.

摘要： The invention relates to a method and an ultrasound probe for imaging a volume by at least receiving ultrasoundsignals from the volume. Generally, the point spread function is anisotropic, leading to a scan being made with an anisotropic spatial resolution pattern (point spread function with specific spatial orientation depending on the orientation of the ultrasound probe), which in turn results in the spatial resolution of an image obtained through use of the ultrasound probe to be anisotropic as well. According to the invention, the isotropyofthe spatial resolution of an image is improved by making a plurality ofscans of a single volume, with different scans being made with different spatial resolution patterns and withdata obtained in the different scans being 3-D spatially compounded.

摘要： A method for determining the presence or absence of malignant features in medical images, wherein a plurality of base comparison or training images of various types of lesions taken of actual patient is examined by one or more image reading experts to create a first database array. Low-level features of each of the lesions in the same plurality of base comparisons or training images are determined using one or more image processing algorithms to obtain a second database array set. The first and second database array set are combined to create a training database array set which is input to a learning system that discovers/learns a classifier that maps from a subset of the low-level features to the expert's evaluation in the first database array set. The classifier is used to determine the presence of a particular mid- level feature in an image of lesion in a patient based solely on the image.

摘要： A breast imaging system is described which includes compression plates for retaining a breast during an examination. One of compression plates is formed by a polymeric membrane stretched under tension to provide a rigid but compliant retention surface which is substantially acoustically transparent for the conduct of a sonographic examination. The polymeric membrane may also be substantially radiographically transparent for the conduct of a mammographic examination. The thickness of the membrane is chosen to be a function of one-half of the wavelength of the ultrasonic frequency used for the sonographic examination so as to be substantially transparent to ultrasonic energy at that frequency.
