摘要： An imaging system for imaging a turbid medium (1) comprises a holder (2) to receive the turbid medium. A fluid (22) surrounds at least part of the turbid medium. A pressure system (30) controls the hydrostatic pressure of the fluid. Notably, the imaging system of the invention images the turbid medium at different pressures applied to the turbid medium by the fluid. From a combination of the measured data or reconstructed images made at different pressures in the turbid medium, inhomogeneities are distinguished from a homogeneous surrounding. The fluid can be chosen to perform both the function of optical impedance matching between the turbid medium and its surroundings as well as the controlled application of hydrostatic pressure to the turbid medium.

According to the invention a volume in which the object is accommodated and into which optical and ultrasound signals are sent is bound by a wall structure comprising entrance and exit positions for both the optical and ultrasound signals. In this way, the object can be positioned relative to the wall structure resulting in a well-defined measurement geometry. The invention improves the comparability of scans of an object that have been made at different points in time as the positioning of the object in a first scan can be precisely reproduced in a further scan relative to the wall structure.
