The capsule (100) has a discrete drive element (300) comprising: a housing (109), electronics for making the electronic capsule (100) operable, a pumping mechanism (115) for dosing and displacing a substance, a power source (105) for powering the electronic capsule (100) and enabling the electronics and the pumping mechanism (115) to operate, and a locking mechanism (130); and a discrete payload element (200) comprising: a housing (109), a reservoir (210) for storing the substance, one or more openings (250) in the housing (109) for releasing the substance from the reservoir (210) and a locking mechanism (230) for engaging the drive element locking mechanism (130). 摘要： A fluid sensor for use within the gastro-intestinal tract of a human being is disclosed. The sensor includes a sensing coil which is immersible in the sample fluid of the gastro-intestinal tract; a signal generator in electrical communication with the sensing coil for applying an electrical current pulse to the sensing coil; a signal receiver in communication with the sensing coil for measuring an electrical reflection relative to said electrical current pulse; and a data processor for receiving the electrical reflection and for calculating data representative of at least one property, such as pH of the sample fluid based on the electrical reflection. The fluid sensor can also include a reference coil for calibrating the sensing coil. The sensor coil and reference coil can be encapsulated in a swallowable pill shell. The sensor coil can also function as an antenna for transmitting and receiving signals to/from a remote location.

摘要： A capsule and methodology for dispensing a medicament in the gastrointestinal tract of a mammal is disclosed, the gastrointestinal tract having tissue sites of interest. The capsule may include a medicament reservoir; medicament dispensing means such as a plurality of piezoelectric droplet jet nozzle dispensers; a power source; electronic control circuitry means and/or detecting means capable of communicating with a medicament dispensing means for regulating the amount and time interval for dispensing of the medicament into the gastrointestinal tract by the medicament dispensing means; and a non-digestible outer protective shell housing, e.g., the medicament reservoir, medicament dispensing means and electronic control circuitry means. A plurality of the nozzle dispensers of the medicament dispensing means can be positioned tangentially to a surface of the housing such that during release of a medicament, the capsule is caused to rotate and/or translate so as to discharge the medicament homogeneously onto tissue sites of interest. In addition, by using multiple nozzles and releasing medicament at high speed, this facilitates medicament absorption by the intestines in the gastrointestinal tract.

摘要： A pill, associated parts and method of operating the same, includes an ingestible shell, a medicine reservoir or other treatment, sampling or sensing mechanism in the shell, a real-time clock for facilitating timed events, and a processor in the shell. The processor is communication with a controller for releasing medicine from the medicine reservoir or for performing other active functions for the pill. A pill memory is included for storing information about medicine released by the medicine reservoir such as dosage profile and timing profile, or other functions performed by the pill. A communicator is also in the shell for receiving control signals for controlling the release controller and for transmitting the stored information from the pill memory. A tamper resistant bitstring contains identification information for uniquely identifying the pill and secret information for encrypting, decrypting, and authenticating communication via the communicator.
