摘要： In one aspect, a core assembly for use in a preform mold stack comprises a core insert having a base and a core sleeve. The core insert and the core sleeve define a sleeve seat and a core interface, respectively, having a complementary fit. The sleeve seat includes a substantially planar pin-contact surface having an inclination towards the base of the core insert relative to a longitudinal axis of the core insert. The core sleeve has a bore extending through a sidewall thereof at the same inclination as the substantially planar pin-contact surface. A retaining pin configured to fit within the bore has a substantially planar end surface to bear flush against the substantially planar pin-contact surface when installed to retain the core sleeve with the core insert.

摘要： A mold stack (1) is provided for molding a preform (2) with a radial flange (23) for forming a container, for example a beverage can, having a lid (28). The mold stack (1) includes a plurality of mold inserts (3, 4, 5, 6) core insert (3), a stripper ring (4), a cavity insert (5) and a gate insert (6), which are configured to cooperate when positioned in a molding configuration to define a molding cavity (7) for molding the preform (2) therein. The mold stack (1) includes a plurality of split lines (13, 14) defined between the mold inserts (3, 4, 5, 6) to accommodate relative movement thereof such that they are displaceable relative one another towards a stripping configuration to effect removal of the preform (2). The molding cavity (7) includes a flange portion (40a) for molding the radial flange (23), which is defined between the stripper ring (4) and the cavity insert (5). The cavity-stripper split line (13) defined between the stripper ring (4) and the cavity insert (5) extends from the flange portion (40a) of the molding cavity (7) in a direction substantially orthogonal thereto.

The molded article picker includes a floating element being configured to be movable between an extended position and a retracted position and biased in the extended position. Furthermore, the molded article picker comprises a pressure structure extending through the floating element. The floating element is cooperable with the molded article to define a substantially enclosed volume including the pressure structure. The pressure structure is configured such that by evacuating the substantially enclosed volume the molded article is sealed to the floating element and the floating element is drawn into the retracted position, thereby transferring the molded article to the molded article picker.

Also disclosed is a method of aligning the core inserts (250) by securing the core inserts (250) from a floating condition, in which they are able to slide relative to the core plate (210) along a sliding interface therebetween, to the fixed condition.
