摘要： A cuff for measuring volume and change in volume of a body appendage includes a hollow, rigid tube and a bladder, the ends of which are sealed to each other to create an enclosed internal volume between the inner surfaces of the bladder and the tube and an external volume defined by the outer surface of the bladder and surrounded by the internal volume. The bladder has a normal, relaxed state, in which the internal volume is filled with a fluid and a retracted state in which the fluid is evacuated from the internal volume. A plurality of emitters and detectors arranged in a linear array are embedded in one of two stiffener ribs placed on the inner surface of the bladder. A fluid port extends through the tube and communicates with the internal volume, through which the internal volume can be filled with or emptied of the fluid.

The pad may be connected by a hinge with another, generally flat-bottom pad of similar elastomeric material and hardness of no more than about 50 Shore 00. The pad may rest on the skin and be penetrated by a needle or other cannula. The pad with the raised profile may then be placed over on top of the needle, for improved hemostasis and sealing when the cannula is removed and before, facilitated by the application of gentle pressure, such as by tape that holds the pads in place.

The switches communicate with a central processing unit that receives a signal upon activation of said switches. 摘要： An apparatus and method are disclosed for using a thermally active device as a flow meter. The flow meter may have an extremely low mass, rapid response time, and use minimal energy. The flow meter may be located near a flow-side surface of a conduit wall, flush with the surface of a wall, or within a boundary layer of a flow in a conduit. In these locations, the device may present virtually no obstruction to the flow. In certain embodiments, the device may use a resistance temperature device (RTD) heated by a known current, and then tested for resistance at a comparatively much lower (nominally zero) value. A flow rate may be calculated as a function of temperature measurements taken at different steady-state conditions. Flow rates may be so measured at any desired frequency, including very infrequently, such as seconds, minutes, or days apart.

摘要： A method and an apparatus for hot-fill or cold fill sterilization of a container containing both a liquid and solid inclusions. The method and apparatus each prevent the inclusions from agglomerating in any area of the container, such as the container closure, thus allowing the liquid to contact the interior surfaces of the container for a time sufficient to achieve sterilization of the entire container. The filled container is subjected to an inversion sequence typically including alternating between inverting the container to an angle of about 60 degrees from vertical and an angle of about 140 degrees from vertical, over a time period of at least 30 seconds. The apparatus includes a means for conveying containers, configured to subject the containers to a series of angles as the containers are conveyed, as well as an enclosure for preventing the containers from falling off of the conveying means.

摘要： A pad of elastomeric material having a softness of typically no more than about durometer 50 Shore 00. The pad may carry adhesive and/or a housing for adhering the pad to a surface, either manually, or by adhesive tape, or another strap. Such a pad exhibits hemostatic and leak prevention properties against needle puncture holes in the skin or the wall of a hollow medical device. Particularly, hemostasis may be prevented with low pressure application of the pad to the skin. The pad may be previously applied to the skin of the patient or a wall of a medical device such as tubing or a solution bag, and the needle may then penetrate both the pad and the skin or medical device wall, to make a resealable puncture with leakage reduction and hemostasis when the needle is withdrawn.
