摘要： A system for a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis using a three-phase reactor (11) in which a primary filter (12) removes coarse catalyst particles from the product and in which catalyst fines are removed in a secondary filter (14). Some or all portion of the product wax from the secondary filter is recycled back to the reactor, either as a back flush medium for the primary filter (28) or directly to the slurry in the reactor (32), whereby removal of catalyst fines is rendered independent of the rate of wax production.

摘要： A thermo-optic system, which may be used for example in thermal imaging, includes an array of optical elements each having a thermally responsive optical property, the optical elements including signal elements and reference elements configured to provide (1) a common-mode response of the optical property to ambient temperature and (2) a differential-mode response of the optical property to a thermal signal appearing across the array of optical elements. The system also includes an optical readout subsystem configured to (1) illuminate the array of optical elements with optical energy at a readout wavelength corresponding to the optical property so as to generate a composite optical signal having common-mode and differential-mode signal components corresponding to the common-mode and differential-mode responses respectively of the signal and reference elements, and (2) filter the composite optical signal to generate a filtered optical signal being substantially the differential-mode image component.

摘要： An optical sensor for detecting a chemical in a sample region includes an emitter for producing light, and for directing the light through the sample region. The sensor also includes a detector for receiving the light after the light passes through the sample region, and for producing a signal corresponding to the light the detector receives. The sensor further includes a thermo-optic filter disposed between the emitter and the detector. The optical filter has a tunable passband for selectively filtering the light from the emitter. The passband of the optical filter is tunable by varying a temperature of the optical filter. The sensor also includes a controller for controlling the passband of the optical filter and for receiving the detection signal from the detector. The controller modulates the passband of the optical filter and analyzes the detection signal to determine whether an absorption peak of the chemical is present.

摘要： Materials suitable for fabricating optical monitors include amorphous, polycrystalline and microcrystalline materials. Semitransparent photodetector materials may be based on silicon or silicon and germanium alloys. Conductors for connecting to and contacting the photodetector may be made from various transparent oxides, including zinc oxide, tin oxide and indium tin oxide. Optical monitor structures based on PIN diodes take advantage of the materials disclosed. Various contact, lineout, substrate and interconnect structures optimize the monitors for integration with various light sources, including vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays. Complete integrated structures include a light source, optical monitor and either a package or waveguide into which light is directed.
