摘要： A catheter provided with an adjustable length guidewire catheter lumen, located proximal of a therapeutic device or agent positioned at the distal end of the catheter. The length of the adjustable length guidewire catheter lumen is controlled by the physician, allowing the benefits of both over-the-wire and rapid exchange systems to be provided in one catheter. The adjustable length is provided with a thin-walled tube that corrugates under axial compression. The tube may optionally be pre-corrugated or may be allowed to corrugate non-uniformly under the axial compression. The catheter length may change by, for example, over 100 % of its original length between full axial compression and full axial extension.

摘要： The present invention is a catheter device (36) that includes a disruptable guidewire channel (30). The guidewire channel is configured to provide trackability of the catheter along the guidewire (40) during introduction of the catheter to a treatment site. Once treatment is completed, the guidewire channel (30) can then be disrupted so as to free the guidewire from the catheter in situ. The apparatus of the present invention provides advantages over existing over-the-wire and rapid exchange catheter introduction methods, including the ability to achieve much faster treatment in series, the ability to maintain multiple treatment implements simultaneously at a treatment site using a single guidewire (40).

摘要： An optical transmission system includes an optical rod (65) and a radiation source (63) coupled thereto. In particular, the optical rod (65) has a length of approximately 6 millimeters or less and a width of approximately 1mm or less, and the optical rod has a three-dimensional pattern (69a, 69b) on an end thereof. The radiation source is coupled to the optical rod so that radiation generated by the optical source is transmitted through the rod along an axis thereof and through the three-dimensional pattern thereon. This optical rod can have a cylindrical shape, and the three-dimensional pattern can be a diffractive pattern so that the end of the rod has a stepped profile. Radiation (61b) out of the rod (65) is thus focused into the core of the optical fiber (67). The three dimensional patterns are preferably diffractive patterns, but refractive patterns can also be used. Moreover, the laser, the rod and the fiber can be aligned using a substrate including a V-groove, or aligned within a sleeve (or tube).

摘要： A method of patterning a plurality of optical rods includes bonding a plurality of optical rods into an array wherein each of the optical rods is aligned so that an exposed end face of each of the optical rods L(41) is oriented in a common direction. The exposed end faces of the optical rods are patterned (43) so that each of the exposed end faces has a three-dimensional pattern formed thereon. These patterned optical rods can then be separated and used in the fabrication of optical systems. A large number of optical rods can thus be patterned simultaneously using photolithographic mask and etch steps. More particularly, each of the optical rods can be a glass rod, and the three-dimensional patterns can be diffractive optical patterns, refractive optical patterns, and/or patterned layers. These various optical patterns can be used to provide beam shaping functions, pattern generation functions, diffusion functions, collimating functions, focusing functions, and/or wavelength division multiplexing functions. The plurality of optical rods can be bonded into a closely packed array using an epoxy.

This apparatus may include a mode matching element and/or an angular distribution altering element. The apparatus may be reciprocal.
