摘要： The present invention provides a method for the continuous manufacturing of optical memory or optical memory substrates, and/or optical disks, which includes supplying a web of polymeric material between two mating platens, melt-forn-xing at least one microform image, such as an information track structure for an optical device, into the web with a substantially flat stamper, heating a substantial portion of the melt formed cross section of the web of polymeric material to the melt flow temperature (T f ) of the polymeric material. The invention discloses several embodiments for melt-forming an information structure and depositing several layers onto information structure to produce an optical memory device.

摘要： The present invention provides a method and apparatus for the continuous manufacturing of optical memory or optical memory substrates and/or optical disks, which includes supplying a polymeric web (110) of material to a substrate forming apparatus, embossing a microform image onto the web (110), such as an information track structure for an optical device, onto one or both sides of the web (110) with a flat stamper (103) and punching a hole through the web (110) during the embossing with a punch nip (112). During the embossing, the polymeric web (110) is heated to above its glass transition temperature. A flat stamper (103) limits the potential for warp in the web (110), particularly when the web (110) is stabilized in the stamp zone. The invention is particularly useful in forming optical disk substrates, such as polycarbonate, having a thickness of 0.6 mm or less.

摘要： Devices are provided for determining the isoelectric point of a charged analyte, comprising a titration chamber and an electrode chamber. The electrode chamber comprises at least two electrodes, for example, an electrode array. Either or both of the titration chamber and the electrode chamber may have a shaped geometry. The electrodes are operative, in conjunction with the shaped geometry of the chamber(s) where appropriate, to generate an electric field gradient in the titration chamber. Permeable material separates the titration chamber and the electrode chamber. A pH Sensor is located in the titration chamber for obtaining the pH of the first fluid. Certain preferred embodiments further include an analyte band detector for detecting the presence and optionally the location of a focused band of charged solute. Methods are provided for determining the isoelectric point of a charged analyte comprising introducing a carrier fluid comprising a Charge analyte into the titration chamber of a device as just described and applying an electric field gradient to focus the charged analyte into a focused band. The pH of the carrier fluid is incremented or adjusted to shift the location of the focused band of charged analyte, and the pH and location of the focused band of charged analyte are obtained for a plurality of locations and pH's and the isoelectric point is determined from such data.

摘要： A method that includes forming a photovoltaic material on a substrate and removing the substrate. The method may include patterning the photovoltaic material to form a plurality of photovoltaic devices and configuring the devices in series to achieve monolithic integration. The method may include forming additional layers on the substrate, such as one or more of a protective material, a transparent conductor, a back conductor, an adhesive layer, and a laminate support layer. When the substrate is opaque, the method provides the option of ordering the layers so that a transparent conductor is formed before the back reflector of a photovoltaic stack. This ordering of layers facilitates monolithic integration and the ability to remove the substrate allows the earlier-formed transparent conductor to serve as the point of incidence for receiving the light that excites the photovoltaic material.
