摘要： A tool for gripping a flat or curved plate in an end region thereof, for example, the flange (21) of a beam (10) in order to move the beam or to move an object relative thereto, comprising a pair of opposed body members (16) each with a ball or roller cage (17) and balls or rollers (18) residing on ramps (19) on the body members. Springs (20) urge the ball or roller cages (17) in a gripping direction where the balls or rollers are approaching the peaks of the ramps. An actuator (not shown) attached by a connecting rod (13) and pivot (14) to one of the body members (16) causes the beam to be gripped by the tool. Thus, the tool may crawl along the beam by reciprocating operation of the actuator, or alternatively may serve to pull the beam in the direction of arrow (30).

摘要： A tool for gripping tubular objects such as pipes or hollow piles by contact with opposed internal or external surfaces thereof to enable the object to be recovered from its location such as in a subsea application. The tool comprises a mandrel (1) carrying several annular arrays of gripping members each comprising a body (2) a ramped wedge member (15) and a ball or roller cage (18). Hydraulic actuators (29) and control rods (31) are connected to tendons (12) which are themselves connected to the wedge members (15) and ball or roller cages (18) thus, upon engagement of the actuators (29) to draw the roller cages (18) and wedges (15) into a condition to grip the surface of the object, and selectively then to draw the wedges (15) and ball or roller cages (18) out of engagement with the surface of the object thus positively to release the tool from the object.
