    • A cushioning and load-bearing apparatus comprises first and second load bearing members (12, 14), each adapted to receive at least one compressible spring member (16) in operative, rotatable, floating engagement. The compressible spring members (12, 14) comprise first and second arcuate panels (18, 24) which are contiguous with one another at their respective proximal ends and are oriented in a biconcave V-shape. A cushioning and load-bearing outsole for footwear is provided in which first and second load bearing members (12, 14), are each adapted to receive at a plurality compressible spring member (16) in operative, rotatable, floating engagement. The rotatable, floating engagement at a plurality of points along the outsole allows constant re-alignment to both bearing surfaces of the outsole in response to loads applied to the outsole. Thus, independent shock and impact absorbing is possible to stabilize and adjust for loads which are applied off-centre or at angles which are not vertical to either load bearing member.

    • An outer sole includes an upper sole, a tread layer disposed below the upper sole, and a resilient mid-sole disposed between the upper sole and the tread layer. The mid-sole resists compression under load, and comprises at least one floating hinge extending transversely to the longitudinal axis of the sole. Each floating hinge includes an upper resilient convex leaf spring, a lower resilient convex leaf spring, and a U-spring joining the leaf springs together. Each leaf spring has a root and a head opposite the root. Each U-spring has a pair of integrally- formed legs, each upper leaf spring is integrally formed at the root thereof with the upper sole, and each lower leaf spring is integrally formed at the root thereof with the tread layer. The leaf springs of each floating hinge are integrally joined at their heads to one of the legs of the associated U-spring.

    • A collapsible portable watercraft may be easily assembled from modular unitary components using minimal hardware. The components comprise two or more pontoon floats (14, 15) connected by a bridge system. The bridge system comprises a transmission housing (35) and an optional propulsion system (24). Optionally, the watercraft may include a steering system (52a) and seats (40, 42). Each seat may include a fin (44, 46) for mounting to a groove (71) formed in a fore/aft direction along a top surface of each pontoon to provide adjustable comfort. The steering system may comprise a row tiller (53a) extending horizontally to a rear rudder (55a) for enhanced maneuverability. Additional accessories may be attached to the watercraft including a sun cover (65), sail, or motor.
