摘要： Method and apparatus for workpiece grinding comprising rough grinding using an abrasive wheel and finish grinding by means of an abrasive belt wherein the workpiece remains within the grinding station throughout the grinding process. The apparatus consists of a grinding wheel (10) and an abrasive belt (26) whereby the wheel and belt are movable towards and away from the workpiece so as to allow for rough and finish grinding without removal of the workpiece. In an alternative embodiment a grinding wheel (50) is mounted on a wheelhead (92) together with a belt grinding facility and rotation of the wheelhead (92) about an axis (108) causes the grinding belt (72) or the wheelhead (50) to be presented to the workpiece. Another embodiment allows for a grinding belt and wheel to be adjacent, alternative wheel and belt operation being achieved by use of a supporting arm (116) which alters the belt position. A final embodiment allows for a belt (120) and wheel (122) on separate supports (124 and 126), on opposite sides of the workpiece and independently movable from opposite sides thereof into contact with the workpiece.

摘要： In a machine tool, a component such as a grinding wheel acts on a workpiece to form the latter into a circularly asymmetric shape, for example, a crankpin. Movement of the grinding wheel is controlled by a control signal which is derived from theoretical relative positions and positional velocities of the grinding wheel relative to the workpiece. In the course of at least one revolution of the workpiece, the respective positions of the grinding wheel relative to the workpiece are measured for each of a succession of angular positions of the workpiece. The measured positions are compared with corresponding theoretical positions and data indicative of any differences are stored, and then used to modify the control signal during a subsequent revolution of the workpiece so as to compensate for any of said differences and thereby reduce the magnitude of any error which would have resulted from the measured positional differences.

摘要： A method and apparatus for grinding a cam (12) with a cam lobe is provided. Rotation of the cam (12) is synchronised with the infeed/outfeed movement of a grinding wheel (10). Control means measures the relative rotational and lateral positions of the cam (12) and grinding wheel (10). The movement of the grinding wheel (10) relative to the cam (12) is controlled to roughly grind a desired cam profile. Finish grinding may be by way of grinding wheels or abrasive belt. Surface hardening may be applied to the ground cam before the finish grinding step.
