    • An overheating detection processing system monitors in real time and stores data samples from the different types of power plant overheating detectors. The system determines a likelihood of whether a stored detector output sample reading, alone or in combination with other readings, is indicative of monitored power plant equipment overheating. The system references previously stored information in an information storage device that associates respective types of detector sample reading levels with equipment overheating. The system also compares a combination of stored sample readings and establishes overheating determination confidence levels. The confidence levels information is combined to derive an overall confidence level of whether the power plant equipment is overheated. An overheating alarm response is initiated if an overheating condition is determined at any confidence level. Additional responses are made based on a combination of calculated confidence levels.

    • A system including apparatus and method of use that insures uniform contact and transfer of analytes from a first dimensional electrophoretic analytical gel to a second dimension, such as an electrophoretic analytical gel, has been developed. The device provides a means for transfer of analytes from a first dimension isoelectric focusing gel to a second dimension electrophoretic analytical gel. In a preferred embodiment, the device facilitates the transfer of protein analytes from a digital proteome chip to a second dimension electrophoretic analytical gel. The second dimension electrophoretic analytical gel can be for use with any technique known in the art, such as, but not limited to SDS-PAGE molecular weight analysis, secondary isoelectric focusing, and capillary electrophoresis. The main features of the preferred embodiment are a mechanical device that locates the first dimension analysis at a fixed and known position in space, and a low density medium that assures uniform electrical contact between the first and second dimension analyses. The advantage of an apparatus that places the first dimension in a known position is that the final data analysis is greatly facilitated by precisely knowing the locations of the first dimension pH features. The medium that assures electrical contact also has the advantage of simplifying the final data analysis by assuring a uniform frame of reference on how the second dimension analysis was run.

    • Disclosed is a single-use surgical scalpel comprising two molded plastic elements (12), and a surgical blade (54). The first molded plastic element (14) is a housing. The housing (12) has an upper and a lower radiused edge, and ribbed interior wall surfaces (24, 26).     • The invention relates to fluorometry, and in particular to methods and apparatus for time- delayed detection of fluorescence in a sample, for example for use in a clinical setting. Exemplary embodiments disclosed relate to a fluorometer (100) comprising a light source (101), a light detector (102), a sample holder (103) disposed between the light source and light detector, a motor (104); and a light transmission modulator (105) disposed around the sample holder and comprising a pair of plates (106, 107) attached to the motor for rotation about a common axis (108), the pair of plates arranged to allow transmission from the source to the sample in a first rotated position, to allow transmission from the sample to the detector in a second rotated position and to block direct light transmission between the source and detector in both first and second rotated positions. Light signal data may be captured after stopping operation of the motor and while the light transmission modulator is rotating in order to reduce or eliminate electrical noise and mechanical vibrations from the motor.
