摘要： A multiple-electrode catheter assembly (10) includes a hollow catheter (12) having an internal elongated channel (14) and a flexible distal portion (16). An inner element (20), slidingly engaged within the elongated channel (14), has a steering mechanism (22) configured for selectively deflecting a steerable distal portion (24) of the inner element (20). According to additional, or alternative, features, the inner element (20) includes sliding contacts (28) for forming electrical connections with the electrodes (18), and displaceable locating elements (32) for determining the position of an electrode (18) during operation. This navigation is enabled by the provision of the transmitter (30) of electromagnetic radiation under platform (34), a receiver (40) of electromagnetic radiation rigidly attached to fluoroscope (22), and a receiver (32) of radiation rigidly attached to the catheter (26), all three of which are connected by wires (51) to a computer (50). The computer (50) displays, on a display unit (48), the image of the body cavity (28) acquired by the fluoroscope (22), with an icon representing the catheter (26) superposed on the image in the location and orientation of catheter (26) relative to the body (28). There is no representational imaging device equipped with a receiver in the apparatus of the current invention.

A reference image (51) is then acquired from an imaging arrangement associated with the endoscope. During a subsequent stage of the procedure, tracking of the endoscope position relative to the target is performed partially or entirely by image0based tracking by comparing features in real-time video image (52) produced by imaging arrangement with features in the reference image (51). The feature comparison may be performed visually by a user, or may be automated to offer more specific corrective suggestions to the user.

摘要： A method, and an associated system, for acquiring and archiving images of the body of a patient. The system includes an imaging device, such as an ultrasound probe (52), for acquiring the images; a tracker (40a) for measuring the position and orientation of the imaging device relative to a frame of reference; and a display unit (48) for displaying the images along with visual or textual indications of their positions and orientations relative to the body. Optionally, the system includes a stylus for digitizing the surface to provide the map; alternatively, the imaging device itself is used as a stylus. The system also includes a tracker (38) for measuring the position and orientation of the patient, both as the map is digitized and as the images are acquired. As the images are acquired, they are annotated with respective indications of the corresponding positions and orientations of the imaging device relative to the body, to facilitate a subsequent medical procedure with reference to the images.

摘要： A miniature endoscope with an imaging arrangement associated with its distal tip portion includes an image sensor chip with a two-dimensional array of light-sensitive pixels and a lens arrangement deployed for focusing light from a field of view onto the image sensor chip so as to generate an image of a scene viewed from the distal tip portion. The lens arrangement is preferably directly affixed to the image sensor chip by a quantity of transparent adhesive. Use of bi-directional communication along data lines to the image sensor chip allows use of only four wires connecting to the chip. These and other features allow miniaturization of the endoscope to a diameter of about 2 millimeters while still generating color images of high dynamic range.

摘要： Systems and methods employing a small guage steerable catheter (30) including a locatable guide (32) with a sheath (40), particularly as an enhancement to a bronchoscope (14). A typical procedure is as follows. The location of a target in a reference coordinate system is detected or imported. The catheter (30) is navigated to the target which tracking the distal tip (34) of the guide (32) in the reference coordinate system. Insertion of the catheter is typically via a working channel of a convention bronchoscope. Once the tip of the catheter is positioned at the target, the guide (32) is withdrawn, leaving the sheath (40) secured in place. The sheath (40) is then used as a guide channel to direct a medical tool to target.
