    • Tap covers and projections for an electrical device are provided. The tap projections have bosses or taps raised from a surface of the tap projection and encapsulated with a resin except for an outer surface of the bosses or taps. The tap projections may have a channel or recess between individual bosses or taps to prevent degradation of the insulation between the respective adjacent bosses or taps. When a tap cover is provided, it is pushed on or bolted to the tap projection. The tap cover may be provided for an individual tap or an entire tap projection and may be formed of a resin or an elastomeric material. The tap cover has a first generally planar surface and a second generally annular surface having a circumferentially-extending groove on an inside surface. The circumferentially-extending groove is located slightly beneath the second generally annular surface. The groove of the tap cover is designed to fully engage with a raised lip of a tap projection or individual tap of a transformer. Another embodiment of the tap cover has openings to receive epoxy- headed bolts that are used to connect the tap cover to the tap projection through the tap connectors.

    • Curable sol-gel composition useful for modifying the surface of a conventional electrical insulation system and providing said surface with an improved tracking and erosion resistance, characterized in that said sol-gel composition comprises: (a) cyclo-aliphatic epoxy resin compound containing at least two 1,2-epoxy groups per molecule [component (a) ]; (b) a glycidoxypropane-tri (Ci-4) alkoxysilane [component (b) ]; (c) a gamma-aminopropyl-tri (C1-4) alkoxysilane [component (c) ]; (d) a mineral filler material [component (d) ]; and (e) a hydrophobic compound [component (e) ] or a mixture of such hydrophobic compounds being selected from the group comprising fluorinated or chlorinated hydrocarbons or organopolysiloxanes; wherein the ratio of the epoxy equivalents of component (a) to the epoxy equivalents of component (b) is from 9:1 to 6:4; the molar ratio of component (c) to the epoxy equivalents of the sum of [component (a) ] and [component (b) ] is from about 0.9 to 1.1; the mineral filler material [component (d) ] is present in a quatity of about 55% by weight to about 85% by weight, calculated to the total weight of the cured composition; the hydrophobic compound [component (e) ] is present in a quantity of about 1.0% by weight to about 10% by weight, calculated to the total weight of the cured composition; whereby the curable sol-gel composition optionally contains further additives; electrical insulation system comprising said cured composition.

    • A curable epoxy composition for the production of an electrical insulation is provided. The curable epoxy composition comprises epoxy resin and harder, and a milled glass fiber.The epoxy resin is diglycidylether of bisphenol A, or diglycidylether of bisphenol F, or mixture of diglycidylether of bisphenol A and diglycidylether of bisphenol F, or cycloaliphatic epoxy resin, or hydrophobic cycloaliphatic epoxy resin; and and said hardener, preferably a phthalic acid anhydride or something similar. The milled glass fiber has a diameter of preferably 8-15 microns. The curable epoxy composition further comprises a filler and the filler is coated with a coating material. The present invention also provides a method for making shaped articles using a composition comprising the steps of preheating said curable epoxy composition; transferring said curable epoxy composition into a pre-heated mold, preferably under vacuum; and curing said epoxy composition at elevated temperature for a time to obtain a shaped articles with an infusion cross-linked structure.
