The locking mechanism includes (a) an elongated element ( 100 ) having a plurality of flexing regions, wherein the elongated element assumes a straightened configuration for introduction into the body, and wherein the elongated element assumes a closed helix configuration with a first portion of the elongated element coming in overlapping contact with a second portion of the elongated element in the closed helix configuration, and (b) at least one locking element deployable so as to interconnect the first and second portions of the elongated element so as to tighten together the overlapping portions of the elongated element, thereby stabilizing the closed helix configuration.

摘要： A device for forming structurally stable curved structures includes an elongated element (10) with a number of segments (12) interconnected at effective hinges (14) to allow deflection of each segment relative to adjacent segments between a reduced-curvature state and a flexed state. Neighboring segments have interlocking features (16) forming an inter-segment locking configuration such that, when the segments are deflected from the reduced-curvature state to the flexed state, the interlocking features interlock adjacent of the segments so as to retain the segments in the flexed state corresponding to a predefined curved configuration of the elongated element. Additionally, or alternatively, a leading portion (44) and a rear portion (40) of the elongated element have features forming at least part of a loop-lock configuration effective to lock together the leading portion and the rear portion so as to form a closed loop structure.

The implant assumes a straight configuration within the elongated conduit and is deployable from the elongated conduit into a closed or nearly- closed loop configuration for deployment interposed between two tissue surfaces to define an enclosed volume. An elongated tightening element is anchored at the distal segment of the implant body and passes along a channel extending along the implant body. Tension applied to the tightening element biases the implant body from the straightened state to the curved deployed state. Preferably, when the tightening element is deflected to reach the curved deployed state, a locking arrangement locks the tightening element relative to the implant body, thereby retaining the implant in the curved deployed state. A distal portion of the implant body is preferably formed with a set of lateral projections to inhibit withdrawal of the distal portion between adjacent spinous processes after deployment.

The deflectable implant includes further a linkage mechanically linked to at least part of at least one of the sequences of segments for deflecting the at least one sequence of segments from the insertion state towards the fully deflected state wherein the at least one sequence is at least part of a loop structure assuming a low profile folded state with the at least one sequence in the insertion state, and wherein deflection of the at least one sequence towards the fully deflected state generates an open state of the loop structure and wherein the loop defines an enclosed volume.

摘要： A medical device (10) includes an implant body (20) with a number of segments (30) hingedly interconnected so as to assume a straightened state for delivery and a flexed or roughly curved deployed state. Implant body may have engagement elements on at least two different segments, for example on a majority of segments. An elongated locking element anchored at the distal segment of the implant body may have projections for at least each engagement element. Tension applied to the locking element biases the implant body from the straightened state to the flexed deployed state. When the locking element is deflected to reach the curved deployed state, flexing segments of the implant body lock by matching engagement elements of the implant body with projections of the locking element. A very secure lock may be formed to prevent opening after deployment.

摘要： A device for removing material from within the body, includes an elongated element formed from hollow segments sequentially interconnected at effective hinges. The device assumes an insertion configuration for insertion of the segments sequentially through an opening of a first dimension into the body.
