摘要： A catheter assembly (10) includes a main catheter branch (12) and a side catheter branch (14). The main catheter branch includes a main balloon (36), a side balloon (38) and a side inflation member (34). The side inflation member intersects the side balloon at a location on the side balloon that is offset laterally from a central line passing from a distal most point on the side balloon to a proximal most point on the side balloon. The side balloon is configured to extend radially outward relative to the main balloon when the side balloon is inflated. The side catheter branch can be centrally aligned with the side balloon central line and be positioned laterally adjacent to the side inflation lumen.

摘要： Apparatus and method for adjustably restricting a selected body lumen such as an anal canal of a patient to passively treat fecal incontinence. The apparatus in various examples comprises a plurality of expandable elements. Each of the elements is comprised of a membrane of biocompatible material enclosing a volume. The elements expand upon introduction of fluid into the elements and contract upon withdrawal of fluid from the elements. The expandable elements are adjustable in size by adjusting an amount of fluid in the elements. Fluid communication to the expandable elements is provided by a plurality of flexible conduits of biocompatible material coupled to both the expandable elements and a fill port block comprising a plurality of fill ports.

摘要： A device and a method for heating tissue, the device having a catheter shaft (10) for insertion into a patient's body, a chamber formed by a collapsible balloon (8) mounted on the shaft and filled with an electrically conductive fluid (36). A power supply (50) applies an electrical potential to two or more contacts (22, 24) within the chamber via conductors (18, 20). The fluid is heated on the basis of I2R losses by a radio frequency electric current flowing between electrodes, and in turn heat the surrounding tissue. According to the method, the device is inserted into a patient's body, the chamber is filled with the fluid, and an electrical potential is applied to the contacts. The device acts as a temperature source, and a thermistor (26) in the balloon or in contact with tissue responds to the heating effect to control application of the current.
