    • A method of preparing a pre-blended beverage ingredient for use in the preparation of chilled beverages includes the steps of placing ice cubes or other pieces of solid ice together with a volume of liquid in a blending apparatus having vessel for receiving product to be blended and an impeller or other mixing or blending means arranged for high speed blending of product within the vessel, and then blending the ice within the liquid to produce a mixture of chilled liquid and a soft paste-like substance. The ice is substantially immersed in said volume of liquid prior to blending and any excess liquid is strained from the paste after blending.

    • A method of preparing a blended food product includes the steps of: introducing a composition of food product(s) into a container (12), providing a closure (16) for the container, the closure carrying an impeller (44); inverting the container so that the closure with its blending element lies lowermost; and driving the blending element to blend the composition to form a blended food product. Prior to blending, the container is mounted in a holder (14) and clamped in place between the closure and the holder, to prevent leakage during blending. The holder may be in the form of a sleeve (60, Figure 7). A drive master (340, Figure 23) is also provided for use with two sets of blending lids (Figures 21 and 22).

    • This invention is concerned with providing apparatus for blending product within a container (10) by charging the container with product, applying a lid (l2) with an integral blending element (14) thereon. The product is blended by driving the blending element with an external drive (34) whilst the container is in an inverted position. The assembled and filled container is located in a holder (22) whilst in a generally upright position and the holder is moved to invert the container so that the lid is lowermost and the product is in contact with the blending element in which position the product is blended. Inversion may take place in a housing (23) in which the product may be heated to a blending temperature.

    • A deformable container is provided which is especially intended for dispensing semi-solid product. It has two end walls (15, 17) at opposite ends and in one end wall it is provided an opening (14) through which product is dispensed from the container. The side wall (25) of the container is formed in the manner of a concertina by the provision of pleats (26) and the depth of the pleates differs over the length of the container being greater over the pleats adjacent the end wall (15) having the outlet (14) compared with the depth adjacent the opposite end wall (17). The invention also provides a method of filling the container in which the container is initially fully deformed and product enters through the opening (14) and causes the container to move towards its extended position.

    • The invention provides mixing apparatus which has a container base (10) and a container lid (12) with the lid carrying mixing means (14) extending through the lid with at one end a mixing element and at the other end a drive connection to a drive motor. When the drive is operated the mixing element mixes the contents of the container, usually when the container inverted. The lid has a rim portion with a circumferential slot (13) and the top edge of the container (1013) is located into the slot when the lid is assembled with the container whereby to improve connection between the lid and the container during mixing. The lid within the rim portion carries the mixing means and, during mixing, the assembly is held to lock the assembly together.

    • Dispensing apparatus is intended for dispensing viscous or semi-solid food products from containers (50). The containers are in two parts (51, 52) and one part (52) is deformable to permit discharge of product through a container outlet (57). The apparatus has a seating (43) for the container (50) and a plunger (36), membrane (104) or gas pressure for engaging the deformable part (52) of the container. The top of the container (50) is located in the seating (43) at the start of a discharge operation by locating means (34; 87) prior to deformation of the container. The seating (43) is located on a pivotable arm (41) movable between dispensing and container location positions.
