    • A coated body and a method for coating a body are disclosed. The improvement of mechanical properties by coating the surface of bodies, in particular tools such as drills, millers or indexable cutters, is known. A layer with particularly advantageous properties is disclosed. The layer comprises a material system with the elements Al, N and one further element, whereby said element has the property of forming cubic nitrides with an NaCl structure. The layers are characterised in having a poor electrical conductivity. The above is achieved, for example for Ti-Al-N, with a high Al-N component of more than 65 Mol %. Such a layer can be generated in a PVD coating device, in which electrodes are driven by an alternating voltage and atomised and the process parameters are adjusted such that the layer has a low electrical conductivity.
