摘要： A wireless communication system from an IV medication infusion pump (10) to a hospital information management system (HIMS) is disclosed). The system includes an IV pump having pump operation circuitry (41, 43) for monitoring pre-selected characteristics (15) of pump operation indicative of IV administration of medication to a patient (20). A transmitter or transceiver (45) is connected to the pump operation circuitry (41) for receiving a wireless pump signal (67) representing instructional data to the IV pump and for transmitting a wireless pump signal representing the pre-selected pump operation characteristics (15). The wireless pump transmitter or transceiver (45) communicates with the HIMS (60). The HIMS includes a receiver or transceiver (61) capable of transmitting and receiving the pump signal (49) representing the pump operation characteristics (15) and also includes a computer processor (57) capable of storing and displaying the pump operation characteristics that are represented by the received wireless pump signal. In one embodiment, a data collection terminal (180) is incorporated into the system. The data collection terminal (180) includes a transceiver (182) capable of transmitting and receiving the pump signal (49) representing the pump operation characteristics and the HIMS signal (67) representing instruction data to the IV pump (10).

A bar code reader (62) is contained in the infusion pump housing (11) and operatively attached to communicate scanned bar code infusion data to the pump display screen (40) and to the control software. At least one initialization button (56) for starting execution of a bar code scanning program is operatively connected through circuitry in the pump, the program activating the bar code reader (62) to scan for an authorized user code, for an authorized user ID code (90), for a patient ID code (72), and for infusion data (76, 78, 80) compatible for operating the infusion pump (10). Acceptable scanning of authorization code, authorized user ID code (90), patient ID code (72) and infusion data (43, 78, 80) must be manually confirmed by the authorized user prior to activating the pump to infuse fluids according to the infusion data.
