    • A process for producing a carboxylated polymer which comprises catalytically oxidizing a hydroxy compound in the presence of a specified catalyst composition and an oxidizing agent to yield a carboxylated monomer and polymerizing the monomer. The catalyst composition used comprises a supported catalyst mixture suitably selected from those composed of at least one element selected from the group consisting of palladium, platinum, rhodium and ruthenium as the first catalyst component, at least one element selected from the group consisting of bismuth, tellurium, tin, lead, antimony and selenium as the second catalyst component, and at least one element selected from rare earth elements as the third catalyst component.

    • A stampable sheet made of a fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin and a molded article produced from the sheet, wherein the reinforcement is a glass fiber mat comprising a nondirectional fiber layer and a unidirectional fiber layer mechanically entangled with each other. The use of 20 to 55 wt% of a glass fiber mat wherein the content of a long glass fiber bundle constituting the unidirectional fiber layer is 20 to 80 wt% and a significant portion of the glass fiber bundle or the glass fiber is in a substantially relaxed state has made it possible to enhance the tensile strengths in all the directions, the molding fluidity of the long glass fiber bundle in the direction of arrangement (reinforcement), and the compression strength in the direction of reinforcement. A molded article produced from the above stampable sheet alone or a laminate thereof is one improved in the tensile strengths in all the directions, the compression strength in the direction of reinforcement, reliability, appearance, and ease of handling.
