    • In a testing system for chemical substances or mixtures, especially for potential plant protection agents, the chemical substance or mixture is applied to a test sample, especially plants or parts of plants. After a predetermined time, the test sample is examined for the effectiveness of the substance or mixture. To this end, a type of a test sample is selected from a stock of such samples and the substances to be tested are selected from a stock thereof. The selected type of test sample and the selected substances are identified (BC1, BC2) by a machine-readable code, which is transmitted to a storage unit (12). The test samples are prepared in a supporting plate (30), for which purpose the test samples or a section (BR) thereof are laid in a depression (300) in the supporting plate (30) partly filled with a nutrient solution (301). Then a spraying device (150, 151) is inserted into the depression (300) in the supporting plate (30) and sprays the test sample therein with the selected substance and is then removed from the depression (300) or the spray device is placed immediately above the depression (300) in the supporting plate (30) and sprays the test sample therein with the selected substance.
