    • A method for preparing a butanone derivative of formula (I), wherein Ar is an aryl grouping optionally mono- or polysubstituted by C1-6 alk, C1-6 alkoxy, methylenedioxy or OH radicals, R1 is a hydrogen atom or, taken together with R2, a C-O bond, R2 is a hydrogen atom or R2 and R1 together are a C-O bond, and R3 is C1-6 alk. According to the method, a compound of formula (II), wherein Ar and R3 have the meanings given above, is exposed to the activity of yeast or filamentous fungus enzymes to give a mixture of compounds of formula (I), wherein Ar, R1, R2 and R3 have the meanings given above, said mixture being optionally isolated and separated, in which case it is further subjected to enzymatic oxidation.
