    • A delay mismatched feed forward amplifier system (112) employing a control system and method using floors and penalties is disclosed. The disclosed control system and method allows the second loop phase adjuster (142) setting to be offset in a repeatable and controlled manner. Applying floors and penalties to offset the steady-state phase adjuster (142) setting modifies the conventional pilot cancellation approach. In the conventional case, pilot cancellation has a distinct minimum that corresponds to the desired adjustment setting. In the disclosed approach, the measured pilot cancellation is clipped to a lower bound or floor to produce a set of equal valued minimum control results. The floor is selected to place a desired phase offset to the phase adjuster (142) at the edge of minimum floor. To ensure that the correct phase adjuster offset is selected from the set of equal valued minimum control results, a control direction based penalty is added. By including both the floor and penalty, the phase adjuster (142) steady state offset will be controlled to the edge of the minimum floor.

    • A system and method for signal peak reduction in a multiple carrier communication system where the individual carriers are produced from input symbols that are filtered to reduce individual carrier bandwidths, offset in frequency, and combined into an output signal. A multiple carrier peak reduction unit (12) is provided which modifies the input carrier symbols so that the combined output signal does not exceed a predetermined peak limit value. The multiple carrier peak reduction unit includes filter predictors (54) that predict the effect of each channel filter (30) on that carriers input symbols by using filter coefficient values corresponding to the impulse response function of each filter (30). The filter predictor outputs are then phase shifted, in correspondence to frequency offsets provided for in multiple carrier signal generation, and combined to produce a prediction of the combined signal output which is then processed to determine the corrections required to the individual channel symbol inputs.
