摘要： A system for blood oxygenation. The system comprises a blood oxygenator in which a blood compartment and a gas compartment are separated by a gas permeable barrier so as to allow exchange of carbon dioxide in blood in the blood compartment with oxygen in the gas compartment. The proximal end of a catheter is connected to the blood oxygenator, while the distal end of the catheter is inserted into a blood vessel. A pump alternates between causing blood to flow in the catheter lumen from the blood vessel to the oxygenator and causing blood to flow in the catheter lumen from the oxygenator to the blood vessel.

摘要： A cardiac assist pump, including: a cannula, including an outer sheath, which defines and encloses a lumen therein, the cannula having a distal end and a proximal end. The cannula is inserted through the aorta of a subject so that the distal end is inside a ventricle of the heart of said subject. The pump includes at least one intake valve, adjacent to the distal end of the cannula, through which blood enters the lumen from the ventricle; at least one outlet valve, disposed radially along the sheath of the cannula, through which blood exits the lumen into the aorta; a fluid reservoir having a variable fluid volume, connected to the proximal end of the cannula, such that blood may flow between the lumen and the reservoir; and a pump drive, coupled to the fluid reservoir and controlling the fluid volume in the reservoir. The pump drive alternately increases and decreases the fluid volume in the reservoir to produce a pulsatile pumping action of blood through the cannula.
