    • A fiber optic termination sealingly connects to a cable which includes a casing having a cable tube and optical fibers. The termination includes a sealed housing, a manifold, a connector and termination tubes. The housing has an inlet to sealably receive the cable. The fibers extend from an end of the cable into a sealed chamber of the housing. The manifold is positionable in the housing, and has an inlet to receive the fibers and sealed passages shaped to distribute the fibers therethrough the connector includes contacts communicatively connectable to equipment and the fibers. The termination tubes are positionable within the chamber of housing, and have an entry end sealingly connectable to an end of the cable tube and a contact end sealingly connectable to the contacts. The manifold sealingly connectable to the termination tubes to define a sealed channel the optical fibers are disposable through the sealed channel whereby the housing and the termination tubes define a multi-layer protective environment for sealingly encasing the optical fibers.

    • Voltage generating device comprising first (14) and second (16) electrodes having conductive surfaces of different materials, said first electrode (14) having a larger thermal flux of electrons than said second electrode (16) and the thermal flux is substantially enhanced when the electrode is subjected to further thermal excitation and which also has an enhanced positive potential with respect to an electrolyte (12) in which said electrodes are maintained in surface contact during such thermal excitation. Several cells (10) consisting of said first and second electrodes and an electrolyte (12) are sandwiched together and internally connected in series such that the voltage of the resulting device is multiplied by the number of cells (10) contained in the sandwich arrangement. Electrical current may be extracted from the individual cells or a sandwich of a series of cells when an external load resistance (34) is connected across the terminals (36), (38) of the electrodes of the device. When disposed in an initial enclosure (40) thermally separated from an associated enclosure the thermovoltaic cell (10) may be utilized as an essential element of a heat-pump to remove thermal energy in the form of heat from its surroundings within the enclosure (42) and to transfer such heat to said associated enclosure (44) by means of an electric current flowing through a load resistor (34) connected to said cell while said resistor is physically and thermally separated from said initial enclosure and disposed within said associate enclosure.
