    • Versatile, efficient cell assays which can be prepared with use of nanolithography and can be used to test nanomaterials, pharmaceuticals, toxins, and the like. For example, a method comprising: depositing at least one first composition comprising at least one cell adhesion material on at least one substrate to form a pattern which forms an interior space on the substrate within the pattern, depositing in the interior space on the substrate at least one second composition, different from the first, comprising at least one material adapted to affect or potentially affect cell function. Tip-based deposition and direct-write methods can be used for deposition at nanoscale and sub-cellular resolutions. Nanoscopic and atomic force microscope tips can be used. Multiplexing can be carried out.

    • Cell co-culturing methods and arrays providing versatility and high resolution. A method comprising: providing at least one substrate; providing at least one first tip with at least one first cell-adhesion material disposed thereon, and at least one second tip with at least one second cell-adhesion material disposed thereon, wherein the first cell-adhesion material is different from the second cell-adhesion material; depositing the first cell-adhesion material from the first tip to the substrate to form at least one first deposit, and depositing the second cell-adhesion material from the second tip to the substrate to form at least one second deposit; and wherein the first and second deposits are capable of providing selective binding to at least one first cell so that the first cell selectively binds to the first deposit, and wherein the second deposit is capable of binding to at least one second cell. Single cell binding and cell interaction studies can be carried out.

    • An improved magnetic switch (10) is provided which is designed for use in an alarm circuit (52) in order to detect relative movement between first and second members such as a door (14) and frame (12), so as to signal unauthorized opening of the door (14). The switch (10) includes a switch assembly (20) for mounting in frame (12) and having first and second switch elements (40, 42), an electrically conductive, shiftable body (44) adjacent the elements (40, 42), and a first attractive component (45). Additionally, the switch (10) has a second attractive component (22) for mounting to the door (14). In use when door (14) is closed and circuit (52) is armed, the magnetic attraction between body (44) and component (22) shifts the body (44) to a switch position where the body (44) is out of simultaneous contact with the switch elements (40, 42). If the door (14) is opened, the magnetic attraction between body (44) and component (45) moves the body to another switch position establishing simultaneous contact with the switch elements (40, 42).
