摘要： A mechanism for modifying resources in a logically partitioned data processing system is provided. A request to modify resources associated with a virtual adapter allocated on a physical adapter is invoked. The resources associated with the virtual adapter comprise a subset of the physical adapter resources. The request to modify the physical adapter is conveyed to the physical adapter. Responsive to receipt of the request by the physical adapter, the physical adapter modifies the resources allocated to the virtual adapter.

摘要： Described is a technique for transferring data between a device controller and a device in a data storage subsystem. The controller has a data buffer through which passes data being transferred to and from the device. The controller communicates with the device by means of low level multisector Read/Write orders and the data requested by the controller is transferred between device and controller in the form of 32, 64 or 128 byte packets. The device has a relatively small data buffer which can store one packet of data at a time. While one order is executing on the device, the controller is able to issue subsequent orders. One of these orders is an EXTEND order which orders the device to continue reading beyond the data specified in the read order currently executing on the device. The EXTEND order also allows implementations of "back to back" writes.

摘要： A computer-implemented method, apparatus, and computer program product are disclosed for migrating data from a source physical page to a destination physical page. A migration process is begun to migrate data from the source physical page to the destination physical page which causes a host bridge to enter a first state. The host bridge then suspends processing of direct memory access operations when the host bridge is in the first state. The data is migrated from the source physical page to the destination physical page while the host bridge is in the first state.

摘要： Described is a technique for transferring data from a data storage system to a connected host data processing system. The subsystem comprises a device controller connected to one or more direct access storage devices e.g. disk drives. The system issues data transfer commands to the subsystem to iniciate transfer of data between system and device(s). Read/write data is transferred directly from device to host via a buffer in the controller. For a read operation, the read command specifies the data to be transferred and the start address in host memory to which it should be sent. The device controller is capable of amending the start address to which it actually sends the data. This provides a performance benefit for split data transfers. In addition, if an error occurs during a read operation, the controller can specify the host address to which the replacement data should be sent.
