    • To connect and disconnect a filter in a gas flow system, the present invention presents a filter unit comprising a filter housing (14; 24; 30; 38) wherein an adsorption/absorption filter (5; 22; 28; 36) is movably arranged, said filter housing having two tube connectors (15; 25; 31; 39) for connecting the filter unit in a gas conducting passage. The filter unit also comprises a shifting element (16; 23; 29a; 37) which is movable from a first to at least a second position. The first position allows the filter (5; 22; 28; 36) to substantially fill the gas conducting passage in a way that forces the gas in the gas flow system to pass through the filter (5; 22; 28; 36), whereas the second position substantially removes the filter (5; 22; 28; 36) from the gas conducting passage, allowing the gas to pass through the filter unit without passing the filter.

    • An apparatus (200) for collection of waste anesthetic gases, and a method of using such an apparatus are disclosed. The apparatus (200) has a gas collection chamber (60) with an input port (51, 61) to be connected to an exhaust of an anesthesia delivery system (4) for receiving a first gas flow (70) therefrom which includes a waste anesthetic gas component; an output port (62) from the gas collection chamber (60) to be connected to a vacuum system (8) for evacuation of an evacuation gas flow (71) from the gas collection chamber (60); and a bidirectional port (63) to and from the gas collection chamber (60), which has an adsorbing unit (21) connecting the gas collection chamber (60) with an ambient environment surrounding the gas collection chamber (60). The apparatus (200) provides for safe prevention of discharge of exhaled anesthetic gases into an ambient atmosphere surrounding the apparatus (200).
