    • The invention relates to a mixing chamber (10) for use in a metal transfer vessel (for example, a tundish used in steel manufacture or a holding furnace used in aluminium manufacture). The mixing chamber comprises a base with a first series of wall components (14,16,18,20) defining a first mixing zone (22) and a second series of wall components (28, 30). A second mixing zone (56,58) is defined between at least one of the second series of wall components (28,30) and at least one of the first series of wall components (14,16,18,20). A continuous flow path is provided from the exterior of the mixing chamber to the first mixing zone, from the first mixing zone to the second mixing zone, and from the second mixing zone to the exterior of the mixing chamber. The region of the flow path between the first mixing zone and the second mixing zone being defined by a first cut-out (42) in at least one of the first wall components (28,30) and the region of the flow path between the second mixing zone (56,58) and the exterior of the mixing chamber being defined by a second cut-out (64,66) in at least one of the second wall components. The first cut-out (42) is spaced from the base and the first and second cut-outs are mutually spaced along the flow path within the second mixing zone such that in use the general directions of flow within the second mixing zone and between the first and second mixing zones are different.

    • A re-closable package in the form of a cardboard carton comprises a body portion and a closure flap. The body portion and the closure flap are delineated by at least two score lines when the carton is in its initial sealed condition. The score lines are disposed such that on opening of the carton by tearing along the score lines, one or more tabs are created on one or both of the body portion and the closure flap. The tab(s) are positioned such that the carton can be re-closed by tucking the closure flap behind the tab(s) on the body portion when present and/or tucking the tab(s) on the closure flap when present behind the body portion. A cardboard blank configured for assembly into a carton as described above is envisaged along with a method of manufacturing the carton.

    • The present invention provides a lithographic process for producing high aspect ratio parts from an epoxy-type negative photoresist comprising the steps of: (i) irradiating a prebaked masked epoxy-type negative photoresist on a substrate with light at a total energy density of from 18,000 to 35,000mJ/cm 2 , (ii) post-baking the exposed photoresist at elevated temperature, and (iii) developing the exposed photoresist in a solvent, wherein no more than 15 % of the energy density is contributed by light having a wavelength of 400nm or less. The invention also discloses a reciprocating microengine (10) comprising a cylinder (14), piston (12) and crankshaft made by the process.

    • The present invention relates to a sensing system which is capable of discriminating types of causes of changing loads on a surface, such as the type of motion of a human subject. The system has wide ranging applications including sports performance (e.g. golf club swing analysis). The system comprises a deformable load bearing surface (2), a plurality of mutually spaced sensors (6), a processor (8) and an output (10). The sensors (6) are coupled through the deformation response of the surface (2) to an applied load (4) to receive local sensory data from the surface (2). The processor (8) is operatively coupled to the sensors (6) and is arranged to transform the sensory data into information data relating to a load (4) applied to the surface (2), e.g. by means of a neural network algorithm. In an alternative embodiment, a housing including the deformable load bearing surface (2) contains a flowable material (e.g. liquid) which flows in response to the deformation of the surface.
