摘要： Methods and apparatus for optimising, improving or maximising the efficiency of an acousto-optic lens (AOL) system are disclosed. Data relating to efficiency is used to select drive frequencies of the acousto-optic devices (AODs) forming the AOL, thereby both increasing the usable field of view and reducing a prior art patternation problem. Preferably according to the invention, drive frequencies are selected that maximise efficiency of transmission through the AOL. When scanning, the centre of each scan is optimised to be of maximum efficiency.

摘要： The invention relates to a method and apparatus for providing hydration fluids. The invention allows for a 'background' rate of providing a hydration fluid to be automatically supplied by an apparatus to a patient, for example intravenously, and for the patient to receive an extra amount of hydration fluid, or 'bolus dose', to be provided when the patient sends a signal to the apparatus. In preferred embodiments the background supply rate, the volume and rate of supply of the bolus dose and the maximum extra volume that can be provided as bolus doses in a given time can be set, for example, by a nurse.

摘要： The present invention relates to an improvement to the treatment of needles for safe disposal. The device (300) comprises a support member (303) having at least one recess (304). Each said at least one recess is configured to receive a needle contained in a corresponding plastic needle cap. The device further comprises a heating element configured to heat the support member, such that the plastic material of the needle cap softens and flows to encapsulate the corresponding needle. Each said at least one recess has dimensions such that, after heating, the needle is fully encapsulated by the plastic material of the corresponding needle cap. A corresponding method is disclosed.

摘要： The invention is directed to an acousto-optic lens (AOL) and corresponding method. The AOL of the invention comprises a first and second acousto-optic deflector, each being arranged to support a respective acoustic wave. The AOL includes a driver for synthesizing first and second drive signals for the respective first and second acousto-optic deflectors. The driver is arranged to synthesize the drive signals so as to be phase-modulated by functions that can be expressed as a Taylor series having one or more coefficients greater than second order. The functions are preferably non-sinusoidal and have sufficient magnitude at the higher orders to effect one or more of fixed aberration correction, dynamic aberration correction and Z-scanning.

摘要： This invention relates to a piece of equipment intended for being sent through the inside of a pipe, with means to perceive and record irregularities caused by corrosion on the internal wall of the said pipe. It comprises elastomeric elements (1) which may be cups or discs and which are fastened axially at the ends of or along a body (2), which may be rigid or flexible. Also fastened along the body is a sensing unit (3) formed by a plurality of rings (31) which have a plurality of high precision angle sensors (311) fastened radially along the whole perimeter of each ring. Means (4) for recording the distance travelled in the pipe also form part of the pig in this invention. All the signals from all the sensors are transmitted to a microprocessed electronic system.

摘要： A Torpedo Pile (100) is described for the anchoring of floating structures used for drilling and production wells for oil and gas, the pile (100) comprising a tapering body (1) provided with fins (20) and a point (30) for embedding in the seabed, its upper end being provided with at least two plates (2) provided with flaps (3), said flaps being capable of inducing a rotation of the articulation elements (4) when a dragging force is exerted on the system. With the continuation of the dragging force, the plates (2) continue to rotate as far as a final configuration, when the points of contact (6) of stops (5) are reached. The pile (100) comprises one embodiment for permanent anchorage and another for temporary anchorage. The method of installation/withdrawal of the two embodiments is also described.

摘要： A method is described for the construction of an arrangement of Extended Reach Wells (ERW) for the production, transport, and exploitation of mineral layers, in that an offshore reservoir of fluids (3) is initially penetrated by an initial well (1), followed by penetration by a multilateral well (2), close to or connected at the end of the drilling section (5) of the multilateral well (2) to the end of the drilling section (7) of the initial well (1). A well of long distance is therefore formed, connected hydraulically at one end (6) of the multilateral well (2) to end (7) of the initial well and to the production unit (8). The resulting long-distance well allows for the drainage of the reservoir in deep and extremely deep water (10) from a platform in shallower water (9).

摘要： There is disclosed a method and apparatus to assist in setting up an array-type Sound Projector. A sound beam is swept around the room and the magnitude of maximum correlation between the emitted test signal and a received signal at the listening position, along with the time of said maximum correlation, are recorded. Rules are then applied to determine the optimum position of the sound channels during playback. Sound beams having a wide angle and shorter path length are preferred for the left and right sound channels, whereas sound beams having smaller angles and longer path lengths are preferred for the surround sound channels.
