    • A security device (10, 112, 212) protects the vulnerable portions or accessories of a bulk storage tank or container (32, 114) against unauthorized access. The device (10, 112, 212) includes a housing (12, 116, 216) that covers the vulnerable portions of the tank, the housing having two or more lockable doors (22, 26; 148, 152) that selectively permit access to the tank or container via two or more respective apertures (20, 24; 150, 154). A first door (20, 148) is openable after unlocking a readily-accessible lock (48), while the second movable door (26, 152) is openable after an elongate lock member (28, 160, 188) that is positioned internally within the housing (12, 116, 216) is moved to an unlocking position. The elongate lock member (28, 160, 188) can be moved to its unlocking position after the first door (20, 148) is opened. Certain tank operations, such as dispensing fuel, may be carried out after unlocking and opening a single door (20, 148), while other operations, such as refilling the tank, may be accomplished after opening a second door (26, 152) once the first door (20, 148) has been opened.

    • Disclosed are methods and devices useful for identifying vehicles for the purpose of fuel dispensing authorization, that in some embodiments save energy by reducing the amount of time that energy-using components of a vehicle identification tag reader are activated. Specifically, some energy-expensive processes in embodiments such as attempted reading of a vehicle identification tag and/or wireless transmission of a result of such an attempt are performed only under command of a service station controller. The feature that energy-using components used for reading a vehicle identification tag or for transmitting results are activated only upon command allows a significant saving in energy, allows for significantly cheaper implementation of automated fuel dispensing authorization. Disclosed are also devices useful in implementing the method.
