The method comprising monitoring electrical impedance properties of a downhole formation by applying an electrical signal between a first portion and a second portion of a drill string that are electrically insulated from each other by an insulating portion, selecting a frequency for transmitting data by electromagnetic telemetry based at least in part on the monitored electrical impedance and transmitting the data by encoding the data in a waveform having the selected frequency and applying the waveform between the first portion and the second portion of the drill string.

摘要： A cover for a rotary tool allows a non-sterile rotary tool to be used in a sterile field. The cover comprises a flexible enclosure of a sterilizable material and a rotary pass through extending through a wall of the flexible enclosure. A rotary tool within the flexible enclosure is coupled to drive an inner rotatable member on the rotary pass through. The cover prevents the tool (which may not be sterile) from coming into direct contact with anything in a sterile field.

摘要： A fiber-based polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) system uses a new polarization diversity detection (PDD) scheme and requires no active polarization modulating components. Retardation of the sample can be determined from amplitudes of arbitrarily-oriented x- and y-components of the reflected light. A hybrid custom 50/50 coupler with single-mode fiber inputs and polarization maintaining (PM) fiber outputs combines light from sample and reference arms of an interferometer. Another embodiment provides a system adapted to provide co-registered autofluorescence-optical coherence tomography (AF-OCT) imaging. AF excitation light is introduced and collected AF light is extracted at a fiber optic rotary joint (FORJ) equipped with an embedded dichroic mirror. A probe tip that uses a clad fiber to supply light to a focusing element provides enhanced OCT and AF performance.

摘要： A sensor circuit usable with capacitive sensors in an electrical potential sensing network is provided. The sensor circuit provides bias current while maintaining a high input impedance for signals in a frequency band of interest by positive feedback of a filtered measurement through a finite impedance. The sensor circuits are suited for technologies such as, but not limited to electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG) and electrocardiograms (ECG). A neurofeedback system utilizing the capacitive conduction sensor is also described.

摘要： An imaging system such as a medical C-arm x-ray fluoroscopy machine includes a tracking system that tracks a position of an x-ray source and an x-ray detector using sensors which monitor positions of joints which allow relative motions of segments in a support for the x-ray source and detector. Sensor readings are used in a kinematic chain. One or more segments that behave in a non-rigid manner are replaced by a virtual rigid link in the kinematic chain that takes into account deformations of the segments (e.g. under the influence of gravity). Calibration methods permit calibration of the system using images of phantoms.

The reamer elements may project from pockets formed in an outside surface of the mud motor. Axes of rotation of the reamer elements may be parallel to and/or skewed relative to a longitudinal centerline of the mud motor. Reamer devices that connect at couplings between drill string sections may be used together with the mud motor or applied separately of the mud motor. The reamer devices include inwardly-projecting elements that engage gaps between the drill string sections.
