摘要： A cutting device is provided that includes an expandable tube having a base and a hollow interior for receiving the implant therein. The expandable tube includes cutting segments extending from the base and terminating to form a distal end of the expandable tube. At least one of the cutting segments has a cutting end with cutting teeth at the distal end of the expandable tube. Spring shaped sections are provided that extend the cutting segments. A method for removing an implant from a target bone is also provided based on the cutting device. A system for removing material directly surrounding an outer surface of an implant in an intramedullary canal of a target bone is also provided based on the cutting device and a sheath. A retractable opening is formed of leaflets at a distal end of the sheath, and a proximal end opposite the distal end.

The measurement system may include sensors (e.g., displacement, acceleration, and/or force sensors) that may be utilized to detect potentially hazardous operation of the burr instrument. For example, when penetrating through the cortex of the bone the measurement system may be operated in a unicortical mode such that when the burr passes through the cortex of the bone, the instrument operating may be arrested to avoid damage to surrounding tissue. Moreover, the system may be utilized to detect a slip or sudden loss of contact of the burr instrument such that the instrument may be arrested to avoid damage to surrounding tissue. Furthermore, the burr instrument may have a predetermined ramp-up speed.

The devices comprise an integral rotatable tool formed by an elongated distal member and a proximal shaft, the elongated member having a distal end portion and a proximal end portion, the distal end portion comprising a tissue piercing tip of a pyramid-like shape, and the proximal end portion comprising an elongated prism-like portion having at least three surfaces and respective prism edges, with at least one of the prism edges between the surfaces being configured as a tissue cutting blade, and the proximal shaft interfacing and extending from the prism-like portion and having a cross section larger than a cross section of the prism-like portion at the interface. In some embodiments, the device comprises an intermediate portion extending between the distal end portion and the proximal end portion and having a frustum shape, thereby forming a smooth transition between a base portion of the tissue piercing tip and the proximal end portion.

摘要： A surgical drill for use with a drill bit. The drill includes a handpiece with a motor and a brake mechanism. The brake mechanism is a sliding rack adjacent a first end and a second end with a stop adjacent the drill bit. An actuator is mounted to the handpiece and a plunger is coupled to the actuator. A sensor asserts a signal when the drill bit penetrates bone. When the sensor asserts the signal indicting the drill bit penetrated bone, the actuator moves the plunger into engagement with the rack to prevent further insertion of the drill bit.
