摘要： Cryotherapeutic systems with features that can facilitate pressure relief in the event of exhaust-passage blockage and associated devices, systems, and methods are disclosed herein. A cryotherapeutic system configured in accordance with a particular embodiment can include an elongated shaft having a distal portion and a pressure-relief portion proximal to the distal portion. The cryotherapeutic system can further include a supply lumen, an exhaust passage, and a balloon configured to receive refrigerant from the supply lumen and to exhaust refrigerant to the exhaust passage. The pressure-relief portion can be configured to release refrigerant from the exhaust passage when a pressure of refrigerant in the exhaust passage exceeds a threshold pressure less than a pressure rating of the balloon. The pressure-relief portion, for example, can include a rupture element configured to rupture at about the threshold pressure.

摘要： An improved system for magnifying forces perceived by an operator performing delicate procedures with a tool. The system senses forces between the tip and handle of the tool and actuates forces between the handle held by the operator and a brace contacting some other portion of the operator's anatomy. Magnifying the forces felt at the tip provides the ability to perceive forces that are smaller than could otherwise be felt and to perform procedures that are more delicate than possible without such enhanced perception. In at least one embodiment, the device is completely hand-held and thus can easily be adapted to a wide variety of locations, orientations, and applications.

The hemostatic material (100) includes a peptide (106a) that preferentially selects exposed endothelial cells for bonding. The peptide (106a) is conjugated with a hemostatic agent (e.g., chitosan) (108a) to produce a peptide conjugated hemostatic agent (110a). The peptide conjugated hemostatic agent (110a) is suspended in a flowable delivery medium (116) that delivers the material to the endothelial cells to stop or reduce bleeding. An apparatus for delivering the hemostatic material (100) includes a conformable covering for sealing off and maintaining an internal pressure in an injury cavity, a delivery port for delivering hemostatic material (100) into the cavity, and a check valve that opens when a predetermined pressure is reached. Methods for producing the hemostatic material (100) and using the apparatus are also disclosed herein.

摘要： Some introducer tools for bone portals have a handle coupled to a driving member by a force-limiting coupling. A bone portal comprising a bone-penetrating portion and a bone stop may be driven to a desired depth in bone when the force-limiting coupling allows application of force to the bone portal that is sufficient to drive the bone-penetrating portion of the portal into the bone but not sufficient to drive the bone stop significantly into the bone. Bone portals of various types are described herein. Various configurations for stylets suitable for use in introducing bone portals or otherwise penetrating bone and methods for inserting bone portals are also described herein.

摘要： A surgical instrument for being endoscopically or laparoscopically inserted into a surgical site for simultaneous stapling and severing of tissue includes force adjusted spacing between an upper jaw (anvil) and a lower jaw (staple cartridge engaged to an elongate staple channel) so that the height of staple formation corresponds to the thickness of the tissue, yet does not exceed the height range that may be accommodated by the length of the staples. In particular, collapsible staple drivers may be supported within the cartridge for driving a staple or staples supported thereon into forming contact with an underside of an anvil attached to the instrument. As the staples contact the anvil, the drivers can compress or collapse to control the overall formed height of the staple or staples based upon the amount of compression forces experienced by the drivers during the stapling process.
