    • A remotely controlled insertion system for a medical device is described. The system comprises a robotic device and a remote control mechanism. The robotic device has a handle controller to receive and hold the control handle or proximal end of a medical device. The medical device is capable of moving in up to six ranges of motion. In ione embodiment a first motor is connected through a drive screw to a handle controller to move the medical device forward and backward. A second motor is connected to drive wheels effective to rotate the medical device clockwise and counter clockwise. A third motor drives a series of gears that are connected to one or more control members on the medical device, this being effective to deflect a tip of the medical device so that movement of the third motor causes such deflection. A control unit is connected to all three motors.

    • System and method of continuously analyzing trial data of an ongoing clinical trial is provided. A statistical analysis is performed on a trial database containing subject trial data. If the result of the statistical analysis does not exceed a predetermined threshold value, then the statistical analysis is repeated while the clinical trial is ongoing. In a blinded clinical trial, a grouped database is generated from the trial database and blinding database prior to performing the statistical analysis. The grouped database groups the subject trial data according to the study groups. The ability to continuously monitor and analyze the trial data for statistical significance in tandem with data collection while the trial is ongoing provides many benefits to the researches because the trial database no longer becomes the bottleneck in obtaining useful results and statistical analysis can be conducted on a near real-time basis without having to wait until completion of the trial.

    • A vascular access system comprises a needle having a distal tip and a proximal fitting section and a dilator having a solid distal section connected to a solid proximal section and an annular recess therebetween, the dilator having a passageway so that the dilator is coaxially positioned around the needle. The needle has at least one opening positioned proximal to its distal tip so that, when the distal end of the needle enters a blood vessel, blood enters the annular recess to show the operator that access has been achieved. Optionally, a sheath having a distal tip, a proximal fitting section, and a lumen sufficient to coaxially fit over the dilator.
