    • Improved ISDN interface apparatus (10) and methods permit dual mode access to an on-board memory (36). A first memory controller (38) is provided that responds to addresses in a first address range to read, write or otherwrite access data in an "on-board" memory (36) a first memory access mode. A second memory controller (40) is provided that responds to addresses in a second address range to access data to that memory (36) in a second memory access mode. Multiplexing circuitry (42) selectively applies control signals from the first or second memory controllers (38 or 40) to the memory (36), thereby, causing it to read, write or otherwise access data according to the first or second modes. The aforementioned first and second modes can constitute differing memory access modes. Thus, for example, first mode is a single-beat memory access mode, according to one practice of the invention. The second mode can comprise, on the other hand, for example, a burst mode.

    • A method of routing signalling information at a signalling point of a telecommunications network. A Global Title Routing Case (GTRC) table is provided for mapping Global Titles to GTRCs, where each GTRC is allocated a primary and secondary destination signalling point. At least one peak time period is predefined, and said primary and secondary destination signalling points are swapped for a fraction of said GTRCs during said peak period to allow for load sharing during this period. For a signalling transfer request received at the signalling point, the Global Title associated with the request is mapped to a GTRC using the GTRC table, and the destination signalling point is determined in dependence upon the primary and secondary destination signalling points allocated to the mapped GTRC and signalling point availability, and, in the case of said fraction of GTRCs, the time at which the request is received.

    • The invention relates to a method for reporting and evaluating a situation, especially a dangerous situation, whereby a conventional telephone is used for notifying the situation, and whereby an evaluation device is called when the situation occurs. According to the invention, the telephone number of the telephone transmitted over the telephone network is compared, in the evaluation device, with a telephone number which is known in the evaluation unit and which is associated with the calling telephone, and when a both telephone numbers coincide, measures are initiated which are defined for the situation. A device for carrying out the method is characterized in that a common telephone serves as an initiating device, in that the transmitting device is a digital telephone network, and in that an evaluation device is connected to the telephone network. In addition, the inventive device comprises at least one memory unit and at least one comparison unit, whereby the telephone number of the telephone is stored in the memory unit, and whereby the comparison unit is provided for comparing the telephone number of the calling telephone with a stored telephone number.

    • The present invention concerns a method intended for use in a telecommunications network comprising at least one switching centre (SSP), an inbound interface (20) in the switching centre (SSP), at least one terminal device (10) communicating with the inbound interface (20), and at least one control logic (SCP) communicating with the switching centre (SSP). According to the method, dialling is received at the inbound interface (20), whereby an intelligent network triggering (11) occurs, and, possibly, one or more additional characters dialable from the terminal device (10) received at the inbound interface (20) are complementarily collected via the switching centre (SSP) to the control logic SCP. Further, the dialling received at the inbound interface (20) is monitored by a dialling timer so that, if the inbound interface (20) does not receive digits within a predetermined dialling timer time-out, the timer time-out expires triggering a predetermined function. According to the invention, this function is implemented using a special dialling time-out and, if the special dialling time-out expires, the switching centre (SSP) sends the control logic (SCP) such a predetermined dialling sequence end character that cannot be produced from a conventional subscriber terminal device.

    • Systems for connecting telecommunications infrastructure lines t o telephones, handsets, computers, telecopy machines and other end user interfaces or consumer electronics devices in a residence or business. Systems according to the present invention include Network Control Units which form the center of a star topology and which communicate via RF link with Wireless Access Units and handsets. Wireless Access Units feature an interface, such as, for example, a standard telephone jack, for accommodating a telephone, a fax machine, a compute modem or other device. In order to compensate for line loss, mismatch and other incompatibilities between the public telecommunications network on the one hand and systems according to the present invention on the other, new encoding techniques according to the present invention employ codecs which encode and decode using 10 bit code words, as compared to conventional mu-law encoding and decoding which uses 8 bit code words. The resulting 16 bit performance yields a subjective SIMILAR 90dB signal to noise ratio over the radiofrequency link of systems of the present invention. Such encoding techniques and 10 bit code segments can easily be accommodated by present processing capacity which was not available in the era in which mu-law encoding was adapted.
