摘要： In fluid pumping apparatus suitable for use in drop on demand ink jet printing, an electromagnetic actuator operating on fluid in the chamber causes a change in pressure, the actuator comprising an armature displaced through a modulation in the distribution of a flux. Modulation of flux is achieved through constructive and destructive interference, between a first magnetic field and a second switchable magnetic field. A combination of permanent magnets and electromagnets are used to provide flux in the arrangement. The invention is preferably of planar construction, manufactured using MEMS techniques.

The ink ejecting surface and the part of the inner surface of each ink ejecting nozzle which is adjacent to the ink ejecting surface have, at least partially, an ink-repellent layer which contains fluorocarbon resin and are formed by electroplating or electroless plating. Since the specific ink-repellent layer is formed on the nozzle plate, remaining ink does not adhere to the vicinity of the nozzles after ink is ejected out of the nozzles, and ink droplets can fly straight and stably to the recording medium.

The head comprises a plurality of nozzles for discharge of ink, an ink chamber communicating with the nozzles and serving as distribution and pressurization of ink, and pressurizing means for causing the ink chamber to be changed in volume to discharge ink in the ink chamber through the nozzles. The ink chamber comprises a bottom plate member formed of a transparent substrate having a predetermined shape and dimensions, a bottom wall member provided above the bottom plate member, formed in a pattern shape in conformity with the shape of the ink chamber and formed of a non-light permeable material, and a partition member formed above the bottom plate member in an area not occupied by the bottom wall member. Also, the partition member is formed from a photosensitive material, which has a partition member formative property, by the photolithography method with a pattern of the bottom wall member as a mask. A method of manufacturing such ink jet head is disclosed.
