    • The present invention relates to a transmitter node for transmitting a demodulation reference signal pattern in a resource block to a receiver node (12) using more than two transmission layers over a plurality of transmit antennas in a radio communications network. The transmitter node (10) comprises a mapping circuit (1301) configured to map a plurality of codewords to the more than two transmission layers. Furthermore, the transmitter comprises an additional mapping circuit (1302) configured to map each of the more than two transmission layers to a respective demodulation reference signal port according to a fixed pattern based on a transmission rank. Each of the demodulation reference signal ports is arranged to add a demodulation reference signal pattern to the resource block and the demodulation reference signal ports are associated to two code division multiplexing groups according to an association pattern. Thereby, a higher data rate can be achieved in the radio communication. A legacy MCS table and a new MCS table having entries with 256QAM are provided with the signalling to switch between these tables.

The disclosed techniques include methods and apparatus for maintaining phase coherence among reference symbols on different transmission-time intervals (TTI)for an accurate estimation of frequency offset. An example method in a radio transceiver for facilitating frequency offset estimation at a remote receiver begins with determining that phase coherence between reference symbol transmissions in a first TTI and a second TTI is required. The radio transceiver selectively maintains phase coherence between reference symbol transmissions in the first and second TTIs, in response to said determining. The radio transceiver then transmits during at least part of a third TTI, following the second TTI, without maintaining phase coherence to the reference symbol transmissions in the first and second TTIs.
