    • Disclosed is a transport incubator capable of housing and maintaining a neonate in a controlled environment while being transported for medical care. The incubator comprises straps to secure the neonate, a battery-operated heater, a fan to circulate the warmed air, a source of humidity and at least one portable oxygen bottle. Capable of being worn by a user like a backpack, the incubator is portable and is useful for transport through difficult terrain. After making contact with a designated transport vehicle, the incubator can be disengaged from the backpack and mounted to a housing platform in the transport vehicle, the platform comprising a suspension system to minimize vibrations on the neonate. It is contemplated that the incubator system can accommodate an AC-powered battery during vehicular transport of the neonate to a medical care facility. A control unit displays data relevant to the controlled environment of the incubator and the neonate.

    • A transferring and holding device (10, 110, 210, 310, 410, 510) and method for holding infants (12) having lifelines (14), such as IV tubes, monitor wire leads (18), and ventilator tubes (15), connected thereto. In one embodiment, the device (10, 1 10, 210, 310, 410, 510) includes a support surface (20, 220, 320) adapted to hold an infant (12); a boundary (22, 322) attached to and bolstering the support surface (20, 220, 320); and at least one securing mechanism (24a-c, 124a-c, 224a-d, 424a-c, 524,) adapted to secure the lifelines (14) and to impede the lifelines (14) from being disconnected from the infant (12). The support surface (20, 220, 320) preferably has openings (30) to enable skin-to-skin contact between the infant (12) and a person holding the infant (12), and at least a portion of the support surface (20, 220, 320) can be a nonabsorbent, open-weave webbed material. The boundary (22, 322) may include a foam member, and/or a flexible plastic or metal member (322) to provide structural support. The boundary (22, 322) may be removable for separate washing of or replacement of the support surface (20, 220, 320), and the support surface (20, 220, 320) may include sleeves (331 ) for insertion of at least a portion of the boundary (22, 322) to facilitate removable attachment thereof.

    • The present invention is a container assembly (10) for use with a rapid transfer port (22) of the type having an RTP door (94), an RTP circular seal (24), and spaced RTP indentations. The RTP requires rotation of the device being attached thereto. The container assembly includes a circular ring member (12) having an interface end (14) and a bearing system end (16). The interface end (14) includes a first set of ring member protrusions for engagement with RTP indentations and a container assembly circular seal (24) for providing sealing engagement of the ring member and RTP. A circular enclosure door (28) is concentrically positioned within the ring member. The enclosure door includes a first set of enclosure door indentations (30) for engaging associated RTP door protrusion and a second set of indentations for engaging a second set of ring member protrusions. The container assembly circular seal (34) further provides sealing engagement of the ring member and enclosure door. A bearing system is engaged with the bearing system end of the ring member. An enclosure (60) having a bearing system engagement portion is engaged with the bearing system wherein the bearing system provides relative rotation of the ring member and the enclosure about a central axis of the ring member. The enclosure includes an enclosure seal for providing a sealing engagement between the enclosure and the ring member. The ring member provides the rotation required for proper attachment of the container assembly to the RTP without any requirement for rotation of the enclosure (60).
