摘要： A storage system comprises a charge storage cell and a controller. The charge storage cell includes first and second charge storage regions, each capable of assuming a plurality of charge levels. The controller programs the first charge storage region to one of the plurality of charge levels and then programs the second charge storage region to one of the plurality of charge levels. The controller reads a charge level stored in the first charge storage region based upon a first measurement of the first charge storage region and a second measurement of the second charge storage region.

摘要： An enhanced write splice for optical recording channels is disclosed. Optical control circuitry locks to previously-written data (202) and determines the estimated write splice location. A training sequence (204) is written to the optical medium at a location based on the estimated write splice location. The phase offset (Delta Theta) is then estimated by reading the training sequence (204). A new write splice location may then be calculated compensating for the phase offset estimate (Delta Theta). Finally, the new data to be spliced may be written or overwritten to the channel at the new write splice location.

摘要： Methods, software, and apparatus for the calibration of writing characteristics for writing to an optical storage medium, and methods of encoding calibration pattern data and calibration instructions are disclosed. The method of calibration generally includes the steps of (a) receiving pattern data and instructions synchronized with the pattern data, (b) writing the pattern data to the optical storage medium in accordance with the instructions, (c) reading a readback signal corresponding to the pattern data from the optical storage medium, (d) processing the readback signal in accordance with the instructions, and (e) determining a value of a writing characteristic for writing data to the optical storage medium based at least in part on the readback signal. The method provides the ability to flexibly set test parameters and to quickly and accurately test the write characteristics of a recordable or re-writable optical storage medium.
