    • An internal spacer clamp for use in welding one end of a pipe to an end of a second pipe. This includes a first spider ring (26) having a first set of pipe contacting pistons for engaging the interior of the first pipe and supported from a frame. A second spider ring (28) having a second set of pipe contacting pistons for engaging the interior of pipe. There is a first power piston (135) for driving each of the pistons in said first spider ring (26) in or out of its hole and a second power piston (38) for driving each said piston in the second spider ring (28) in and out. An air powered pipe spacing power piston (68) supported adjacent said second power piston (38) for moving the second spider ring (28) toward or away from the first spider ring (26). The housing of the spacing power piston is rigidly connected to the housing of the second power piston which is rigidly connected to a cup-like cover which connects the housing of the second power piston to the second spider ring whereby movement in or out of the spacing housing moves the second spider ring either toward or away from the first spider ring. Control air valves control the sequence of pressurized air being supplied to drive the pistons of the power pistons in or out in a selected order.

    • A compliance mechanism (10) is disclosed for maintaining a fluid applicator (47) in contact with the surface of object (71) for fluid application. The compliance mechanism includes an L-shaped bracket (15) having a first leg (17) and a second leg (19), each leg having a tab. A first dual acting fluid operated cylinder (32) is slidably positioned on the first leg (17) of the L-shaped bracket (15). First cylinder (32) has a piston rod that advances during fluid actuation of the first cylinder. A second dual acting fluid operated cylinder (35) is slidably positioned on the second leg (19) of the L-shaped bracket (15). The second cylinder (35) has piston rod that advances during fluid actuation of the second cylinder (35). A fluid applicator (47) is on first cylinder (32) for applying fluid to object (71). The first cylinder (32) allows fluid applicator (47) to move relative to the object in a second direction whereby fluid applicator (47) is maintained in contact with object (71) during fluid application.

    • When a boom cylinder (11) and an arm cylinder (18) are to be actuated simultaneously, the arm cylinder (18) is actuated after the boom cylinder (11) is actuated. A pressure reducing valve (30) is provided on a circuit which connects a hydraulic pilot valve (13) for an arm and a first pressure receiving section (16) of an arm operating valve (4) to each other. A throttle (40) and an accumulator (41) are provided on a circuit (23) connected to an output circuit of a hydraulic pilot valve (5) for a boom. The pressure reducing valve (30) is reduced in pressure by a pressure difference across the throttle (40). Thus a pressure oil flows to the accumulator (41) to produce a pressure difference across the throttle (40), so that the pressure reducing valve (30) is reduced in pressure until the pressure oil fills up the accumulator (41), and the arm operating valve (4) is switchingly actuated after a boom operating valve (3) has been switched.

    • A pressurised fluid supply system has a pump (2) which supplies pressurised fluid to more than one consumer (A, B, C, D, E, F, G and 10) via a common fluid flow control valve (15, 16, 17, 18). Each consumer is supplied either via a fluid outlet (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 ) or is directly connected to the system with each outlet or consumer having a sensing means (5s,6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, 10s, 1 1s) to detect either when a consumer is connected to the outlet or when a directly connected consumer is in use. A control unit (20a) receives signals from the sensing means and provides a signal if two or more consumers are operable by the same fluid flow control valve. Each fluid outlet has a supply connection and return connection and each connection is provided with a closure flap (5f, 5g, 6f, 6g) which is moveable between a dosed position in which no consumer is connected with the connection and an open position in which a consumer is connected with the connection. The sensing means senses when the flap is in its open position. If a consumer is directly connected with the system without the use of a fluid outlet, the directly connected consumer is supplied from the system via a closable supply valve, the supply valve being provided with a sensor which provides a signal to the control unit when the supply valve is open.
