    • An amplifier (e.g., an LNA) with improved ESD protection circuitry is described. In one exemplary design, the amplifier includes a transistor (410), an inductor (412), and a clamp circuit (422). The transistor (410) has a gate coupled to a pad (450) and provides signal amplification for the amplifier. The inductor (412) is coupled to a source of the transistor (410) and provides source degeneration for the transistor (410). The clamp circuit (422) is coupled between the gate and source of the transistor (410) and provides ESD protection for the transistor (410). The clamp circuit (422) may include al least one diode coupled between the gale and source of the transistor (410). The clamp circuit (422) conducts current through the inductor (412) to generate a voltage drop across the inductor (412) when a large voltage pulse is applied to the pad (450). The gate-to-source voltage (Vgs) of the transistor (410) is reduced by the voltage drop across the inductor (412), which may improve the reliability of the transistor (410).

    • Amplifiers with noise splitting to improve noise figure are disclosed. In an exemplary design, an apparatus (e.g., a wireless device, an integrated circuit, etc.) includes a plurality of amplifier circuits (550a, 550b, 550m) and at least one interconnection circuit (580a, 580b). The amplifier circuits (550a, 550b, 550m) receive an input radio frequency signal (RFin). The interconnection circuits (580a, 580b) are coupled between the plurality of amplifier circuits (550a, 550b, 550m). Each interconnection circuit (580a, 580b) is closed to short the outputs or internal nodes of two amplifier circuits coupled to that interconnection circuit (580a, 580b). The plurality of amplifier circuits (550a, 550b, 550m) may include a plurality of gain circuits (560a, 560b, 560m) coupled to a plurality of current buffers (570a, 570b, 570m), one gain circuit and one current buffer for each amplifier circuit.

    • Techniques for improving the linearity of a cascode amplifier. In an exemplary embodiment, an auxiliary common-gate amplifier (M5) is provided in parallel with the principal cascode branch (M2). The auxiliary common-gate amplifier (M5) samples a cascoded node (Xl) in the principal cascode branch (M2). The auxiliary common-gate amplifier (M5) generates a current which, when combined with the current generated by the principal cascode branch (M2), cancels a distortion component to generate an output current with improved linearity characteristics. In an exemplary embodiment, a phase shifting network (310) couples the cascoded node (X1) to the auxiliary common-gate amplifier (M5), and may include, e.g., a capacitor coupled to an inductor. Techniques for improving the linearity of a cascode amplifier. In an exemplary embodiment, an auxiliary common-gate amplifier (M5) is provided in parallel with the principal cascode branch (M2).
