    • Process and apparatus for producing fabric-reinforced, thin concrete panels suitable as a backer board for construction materials such as ceramic tile, slate and thin brick. Prior art methods tend to be labor intensive and require undue cleaning of forms and excessive handling of panels. In the claimed method, the components of the panel are deposited on a web of disposable carrier/release material (5) such as polyethylene coated paper while moving on a conveyor belt (1) to form a continuous strip (20) the strip is cut (21) into panels (28) and the wet uncured panels are stacked by means of a novel air-float stacking unit (31), then subsequently cured.

    • A conveyor (134) conveys sheets (102) and deposits the sheets (102) at a location (124) to be stacked. The conveyor (134) includes a sensor (137) for determining the presence of a sheet (102) before the sheet (102) arrives at the location (124).
