摘要： Substantially sealed microfluidic devices for performing pipettorlessratiometric dilution are provided. In one embodiment, valves are disposed between and permit selective fluid communication between multiple chambers of a series of chambers. In another embodiment, a mixing chamber receives fluid from an inlet port and is in donative fluid communication with multiple receiving chambers each having a small volume than the mixing chamber. Active mixing means may be provided, including moveable magnetic elements, sonication, and mixing channels coupled with fluid transport means. A material transport system may be used with a non-electrokinetic pipettorless dilution system for transporting sample, diluent, and combinations thereof within the device.

A first undivided microfluidic channel (450, 519) is defined in a first device layer (442, 503), a second microfluidic channel (460, 515) is defined in a second device layer (444, 501), and a plurality of apertures (458, 518) in fluid communication with the first channel (450, 519) and second channel (460, 515) are defined in a third device layer (443, 502) disposed between the first layer (442, 503) and second layer (444, 501). Supplying different fluids to the first channel and second channel results in an interleaving or streaking of the fluids that leads to rapid mixing. Enlarged portions (451, 461), and at least one converging region (461A), may be provided to accommodate many apertures and further facilitate fluid mixing.

Reagents, samples or other fluids common to multiple functional features ("common fluids") may be input into a microfluidic device or system through one or more distributing inputs that divide and distribute the common fluids as desired. The use of a multi-layer fabrication technique allows multiple distributing inputs to distribute to multiple functional features in a microfluidic device without undesirable fluid channel intersections.

摘要： Multi-layer microfluidic splitting devices are provided. A common fluid inlet fluidly communicates with a branching channel network that evenly divides a fluid flow to a plurality of outlets. Even splitting is provided by maintaining substantially equal fluidic impedance across all branch channels. Substantially equal fluidic impedance may be provided by maintaining a substantially equal flow path length between the common inlet and each of the outlets. The use of multiple device layers permits fabrication of such a device without geometrically complex channel structures, high feature density, and two-dimensional outlet arrays.
