    • Robust microfluidic mixing devices (440, 500) mix at least two fluid streams passively, without the use of moving parts. A first undivided microfluidic channel (450, 519) is defined in a first device layer (442, 503), a second microfluidic channel (460, 515) is defined in a second device layer (444, 501), and a plurality of apertures (458, 518) in fluid communication with the first channel (450, 519) and second channel (460, 515) are defined in a third device layer (443, 502) disposed between the first layer (442, 503) and second layer (444, 501). Supplying different fluids to the first channel and second channel results in an interleaving or streaking of the fluids that leads to rapid mixing. Enlarged portions (451, 461), and at least one converging region (461A), may be provided to accommodate many apertures and further facilitate fluid mixing.
