    • A method and apparatus for dry casting concrete wall blocks having a decorative face. The blocks (20) are cast in a mold (31) including a form (32), a flexible insert (40) and a steel pallet (33). Magnets (59) hold the insert (40) on the pallet (33) while permitting the insert (40) to slide on the pallet (33) into alignment with the form (32) when the form (32) and pallet (33) are moved together. The insert (40) creates a decorative face on one or more simultaneously cast blocks (20). After the blocks (20) are cast, the uncured blocks (20) and the insert (40) are moved together from the form (32) and transferred to a curing area. After the blocks (20) cure, they are separated from the insert (40). Preferably, additional concrete mix is provided adjacent the insert (40) prior to compacting to avoid voids in the block face. Optionally, the shoe (73) which compacts the concrete mix may be shaped to impart a lip (87) adjacent a back edge of the block.

Moulding divisions are formed by side T-shaped elements, an end upper element, cavity-forming elements and by metallic bottoms.
