    • A control knob assembly for a cooking appliance includes a control knob and a track body disposed in the control knob. A ring-shaped bezel having a plurality of inwardly projecting guide followers is mounted to the control knob, whereby the guide followers ride in tracks disposed within a top surface of the track body. The control knob is slidable over the track body, and is alternatively locatable in extended and retracted positions. When the control knob is located in a retracted position, the guide followers are releasably secured in notches contained in the tracks. When depressed, the guide followers are disengaged from the notches, permitting the control knob to move to an extended, operating position. In the operating position, the user depresses the control knob, thereby engaging a second plurality of notches which permit operation of a two-step gas valve by sequentially depressing and rotating the control knob.

    • A portable latching switch which has a switch body containing three cavities. An elongated cavity extends into the switch body for receiving an actuating member. The second and third cavities communicate with and extend transversely from the elongated cavity and contain latching members. An electrical switching member is responsive to movement of the latching member located in the second cavity. A locking member is contained in the third cavity whereby upon actuation of the electronic device a key is required for resetting of the latching member in the third cavity and subsequently of the actuating member.

    • A switch operating member is provided in an opening at the upper portion of a switch housing, and a rotary knob has a cylindrical portion arranged about the operating member. A restoring spring has one end thereof engaged with the switch housing and has its other end engaged with the rotary knob. Locking means are provided comprising a projection on the outer periphery of the operating member and an engaging portion on the cylindrical portion of the rotary knob, or vice versa. The operating member is automatically locked against up-and-down movement when the projection is brought into locking engagement with the engaging portion owing to restoration of the rotary knob. A cam groove having steps for preventing reverse movement is provided on the operating member as the engaging means. The switch operating member is locked at an initial position while the projection is in abutting contact with the cam groove. When the switch is unlocked by turning the rotary knob, the operating member can be manipulated, after which the operating member is returned to its initial position and locked automatically by restoration of the rotary knob and the operating member. This prevents the user from forgetting to lock the switch and also prevents the switch from being operated erroneously or inadvertently.
