    • A snap-action switch assembly is disclosed. The switch comprises an arm projecting from a first support and having a first end portion thereof supported by the first support, a spring interconnecting a second support and the arm to exert a compressive force on the arm, a spring adjuster supported on a substantially central portion of the spring and selectably presettable to vary the magnitude of the compressive force, and an electrical contact mounted on the end portion of the arm opposite the first end portion and actuatable by angular displacement of the arm. Preferably, the spring adjuster is arranged symmetrically in the middle of the spring, since the effectiveness of the setting is then at its greatest. The spring adjuster directly varies the characteristic of the spring and is attached to the spring itself, so that a very compact form of construction results.

    • Two identical toggle springs of a snap action switch are inserted in the same knife-edged bearings and are spaced apart in the region of their clamping locations and are activated by the same plunger. There are two control arms connected to the toggle springs each having a movable contact. The relative distance between the control arms is limited by a lost motion buffer. Stationary contacts are positioned above and below the movable contacts. The control arms are actuated by the plunger and move in the same direction as the plunger establishing contact between one of the movable contacts of the control arms and one of the stationary contacts.

    • A switch mechanism includes a fixed contact bar on which two or more contacts may be mounted. A movable contact is associated with each of the fixed contacts. Two independent toggle mechanisms are provided, each responsive to a different pressure-responsive displacement actuator for selectively actuating one or more of the movable contacts. In one embodiment having two normally open and one normally closed set of contacts, one toggle mechanism is connected by a sliding yoke to the movable contacts of one normally open set and the normally closed set, and the other toggle mechanism is connected by a second, independent sliding yoke to the movable contacts of the other normally open set and the normally closed set. Hence the normally closed contacts (which may be used to de-energize a compressor motor) are opened if either pressure limit is exceeded, but only the normally open set is disclosed which is associated with the tripped toggle mechanism. This may be used to indicate an alarm. Each toggle mechanism may be automatically resetting or require manual reset.

    • The invention relates to an electric snap switch assembly which includes a stiff arm which is pivotal about a fixed axis abutment and is movable in a range between two operative positions. A sheet metal hinge member extends the length of the arm and is attached to the fixed axis abutment and to the arm. A sheet metal spacer member is attached to a movable abutment and a U-shaped bow spring straddling the movable abutment is maintained in a compressive state with one leg thereof attached to the free end of the hinge member and the other leg thereof attached to the movable abutment member. A pivotally mounted adjustment member carries the movable abutment.
